Lucca villas/ hotels

ANy recommendations on places to stay in the Lucca area? We need a place to stay for four nights while visiting villages in that area. Thanks! Gwizzer

I stayed at La Romea , a lovely B&B for 2 weeks. I recommend it.

A charming, small and inexpensive hotel within Lucca is the Albergo San Martino. I recommend it a lot, and I would love to know if anyone else has stayed and enjoyed it. We did; our room was great, free bikes for the walls, easy access to trains, and help with parking. http://www.albergosanmartino.it/

We stayed in the heart of Lucca in the Palazzo Alexander (ria ra) it was a small boutique hotel, not cheap but excellent location. They have parking facilities close by, we found the rooms to be very comfortable and everone was very friendly. We would certainly stay there again if we returned to Lucca.

Half way between Pisa and Lucca, on a mountainside surrounded with olive fields, the Hotel Villa Rinascimento. Rustic but it has a vanishing-edge pool, and great food.

tuscanlifeedit, we stayed at Albergo San Martino in October and weren't crazy about it. In fact, it was the one hotel on this trip that disappointed us. We're not big-spending travelers, so it's not like we expected the Ritz, but it just seemed not to compare to comparably-priced places we stayed at in comparably-priced towns. But maybe we just hit it at a bad time -- or maybe we just got the worst room! -- because most do people seem to find it charming.

It is definitely well-located for those who want to stay inside the walls.

gwizzer, have you considered the Albergo Piccolo Puccini, also within the walls? That's where we tried to get into, but they were full. If we return to Lucca, I'd try the Puccini.
