Lucca to Pisa-Bus or cab

Will be staying in Lucca with a day trip planned to Pisa, plus another trip to Pisa later to pick up car rental. Would you suggest taking a cab (what would be the estimated cost) or a bus? The 2nd trip into Pisa would include luggage.
Thanks, Lisa S

It is very easy to take the train from Lucca to Pisa. We took the train from Florence to Lucca a few months ago and it was very pleasant. The price should be quite reasonable and certainly much less than a cab. Also there is not so much to see in Pisa so why not just combine the car pick up with the sightseeing?

We took the train(2-3E) from Lucca to Pisa and got off at the station close to the leaning tower(S.Rossore not Centrale). This is a tiny station but is only a few blocks walk to the tower. On the 2nd trip take the train on to Centrale and store your luggage if your rental car agency is near there. If it's at the airport you can catch the train to the airport from Centrale(approx 2-3E).

Thanks for the advise. Am actually planning on doing Lucca & Pisa in one day of sightseeing. Need to pick up car and leave Pisa early the 2nd time due to arrangements with wineries in Chianti and Radda. But will definitely stick with the train.
Thanks, Lisa S
