Lucca - parking

I'll be visiting Lucca on my way from CT to Florence, could someone advise where is the best or most convenient 'porto' to leave my rental car to enter the city of Lucca. Thx!

Hi S,

There is parking at the train station.

Also see www.mappy.com for car parks.

Hi S

Porta San Pietro.

I'm not sure if it's the "best or most" convenient, but it certainly is very good and very convenient.

swagman,

There is a large parking lot across from the entry gate which is a good one... sorry I can't be more specific as to streets...don't remember the names... What I did want to say is if you go on a Saturday, be there early...Saturday is a big day in Lucca and the lots fill quickly...we are there and parked well before 10:00 am...

Do not drive into Lucca if possible. There are lots (one is free)outside the wall.

why is it more crowded in lucca on a saturday? we are thinking of day trip from CT and thought Saturday would be a good day to get OUT of CT and visit Lucca and Pisa. Please fill me in. thanks.

alison,

I don't know if it is MORE crowded than in the week ( we have visited three times on a Saturday) but it is crowded...there is usually a small market held on the square and the locals are out in force enjoying their wonderful city...everyone walks within the walls..it is festive and fun...if you have a car, parking will be tighter the later it gets.. if you are coming by train, it shouldn't be a problem.....and Lucca respects siesta hours....many shops closed down between 12:30 and 3:30, even on a Saturday..

Hi S

The entry gate that Traviata is unable to remember is Porta San Pietro.

Dear All

Thank you for all your input.

I have looked up mappy.com and note that Porta San Pietro is next to Lucca's train station which has car parking facilities. Will certainly park there for the day. Does anyone know the associated tariff?
