Lucca or Tuscany Country

Hello,

I had been planning to stay my last three nights in a hotel in Lucca after a week in Florence. However, 4 weeks before our trip of course I'm having doubts and am now considering renting a villa for a weekend (July 2-July 4).

Question: Are there any that might rent just for the weekend and is this change worthwhile. The thought of having a lazy weekend in the tuscany country side after a week in Florence is starting to sound very appealing!!

Hi b,

Lucca is in Tuscany.

I think that you will find it just what you are seeking.

Lots of good options ! Please tell us where you depart Italy and if a car is an option. But, after Florence, I would head south, not to Lucca.

We are considering a car. I just feel like driving around wine country in Tuscany would be a better way to end our week than two nights in Lucca.

BTW, we depart from Pisa. So I didn't want to go much farther south than Siena.

I agree. Get a car and base yourself near Siena to see San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, and Montalcino. Look at Hotel Pescille near San Gim. as a reasonable base location.

Personally I'd have 3 nights in Florence and a week touring the countryside - I think a week in Florence is too long. After about 3 days the crowds get to me.

P.S. I very much doubt you'd be able to rent a villa for less than a week in July, the peak Italian holiday month.

Thanks for the info. How far is Siena from Florence. I was planning one night in Castellini and then another night near San Gim.

Just received availability notice for http://www.ilparetaio.it/
seems pretty cool and well located. Any feedback/experience?
