Lucca - Hotel Celide?

I need a hotel in Lucca for September and so far have only found the Hotel Celide to be available.

I want a place close to the city centre/old wall and need access to parking.

Has anyone had experience with the Celide? Any other recommendations? (I have already checked the San Marco--it is sold out, and the Principessa is a little above my budget.)

I believe that the Celide is just outside the walls so not so very well located if you want to be in the center. I can recommend La Luna on the Via Fillungo which is one of the main roads and it is located near the old Roman Ampitheater (now just a pretty piazza, no ruins) Very close by to this hotel are good shops, restaurants and little coffee bars. But, Celide would be an OK choice as Lucca is a walking city and nothing is very far away. I believe that La Luna has parking as well. Sorry can't describe the rooms--we stay with relatives so while I know Lucca quite well, I've never been to a hotel except for the Principessa which was a treat albeit in a terrible stormy period. Have a meal at the old Buca di Sant'Antonio or Puccini. Enjoy Lucca, it's very special.

Try the Picollo Puccini (?) which is just off the main piazza, if I remember correctly. Also, there's Hotel Universo right on the piazza but I found the staff to be rude, the rooms were pricey and the hotel seemed dirty compared to others I stayed in. Maybe it was a bad day, for me and the hotel staff, but it's better than sleeping in your car! Good Luck.

My wife and I stayed at the Celide in '97. A nice clean, well kept hotel with a friendly staff and decent size rooms. Modern baths. Good parking. It's outside the walls but we were able to walk to the central square in 15 minutes, not a strain. Pictures of Puccini on the walls.

Thanks for the info. I am checking into La Luna now. Any comments on that one?

I stayed at the La Luna in the Spring of 1997...I am heading back to Italy in less than a week...I am going to visit Lucca for a day or 2 and plan to check w/ La Luna.

Stayed at the Celide in 1994. It is right outside the city walls and remember it and Lucca fondly. Parking was available. Do not need a car inside Lucca. It's a fun town to wander in. The walk into the center was no more than 15 minutes. Don't miss Buca di San Antonio for dinner

In think Celide is a good choice. I stayed there few weeks ago and I think it's one of the best places in Lucca. They re-opened the restaurant too. They also have bikes for their guests. You already e-mailed them? Maybe you can ask for a good price.
