Lucca - Gyms or Health Clubs
Would anyone of know of any gyms or health clubs available in the Lucca area and is there such a thing? Trying to keep the workouts going while on vacation.

Hi Bud,
I haven't visited Lucca so I don't have a specific answer unfortunately. However, I've enjoyed many early morning jogs in several Italian cities. There is something invigorating about running amongst thousand-year-old ruins! Of course, we normally do so much walking that further aerobic exercise isn't needed (despite all the extra gelato and other junk food we eat). For strength training, how about packing some of those elastic exercise bands? They are light and they work pretty well for a good overall muscle workout. |
Just go to a lot of hill towns in Tuscany. They'll be better than any health clubs and much prettier.

P.S. I am in no way affiliated with this company and have never bought anything from them, but http://www.bodylastics.com/ has a link that shows you how to re-create gym exercises using the exercise bands. Pretty neat what you can do with an oversized rubber band!

BudTx,
If you are a runner, Lucca is the place for you. There is a path along the top of the wall that surrounds the city. At night it is crowded with everyone enjoying a passeggiata (walk after supper). During the day, people walk, jog and bike along the wall. I think it is 3 or 4 miles to do the entire loop. Have fun. |
From your other post...
Author: anna_in_france Date: 07/26/2006, 01:57 pm I know that there is a gym in the Eurostars Toscana hotel that is in Lucca. Not sure if a non-guest could get access though and it might not have all the equiptment you're looking for. Hope this helps! |
Just to add that a few summers ago we spent 3 weeks in Forte De Marmi. Not wanting to completely let go, I would go out for a jog in the mornings. The looks of confusion I got from the residents were hysterical-most would look behind me to see who I was running from;) I think they have the right idea!
