Does anyone have knowledge of taxi service in Lucca? Is it easy to get taxi service from the center to the hills in Lucca? Thank you!

I'd think the best access to taxis in Lucca would be at the train station, just outside the town wall or on the other side of town at the bus station. The old town within the wall isn't huge so you won't be very far from one or the other.

Collodi is in the hills above Lucca and a so-so hill town is known as Pinocchio's 'birthplace' where his creator lived and now the town treads on that relationship - mention in case you have kids or are just heading to hills and may be interested.

If you want to visit towns outside of Lucca, I suggest arranging a driver and not relying on taxis. "hillls in Lucca" is very vague. There are a few good daytrips available by public transportation. Pisa is very easy and I believe Montecatini Terme, also. Trains go to both.

On the taxi thing, I believe you will need a definite destination to plan for this. Do you have a hotel? Most can recommend a driver.

I can vouch for the beauty of the area, but it's not easy driving. Isola Santa and Vagli di Sopra and Vagli di Sotto are. woth seeing.

We rented a villla on the hills of Ciciani and will have a large 9 passenger car. But some nights I thought going out for dinner we could take a taxi back to the villa. I was trying to figure out is this possible and “ mmeperdue” suggested outside the wall at the train station. Thank you!
