Thanks for the advice Stu, Patricia and Cigale.....I stayed in Bonnieux and wouldn't have traded it for any other area!!
Patricia--sorry that we missed you. We had 2 days and way too little time. We loved it and plan to get a gite next time so we hope to see you then!

We stayed in Bonnieux in late September of 2004. We stayed at Le Clos du Buis. We liked it, and the one night we had dinner there, it was quite good. You can find their web page at http://www.le-clos-du-buis.com/.

You can find my trip report from back then at:

The report also gives our impression of the other restaurants we ate at in Bonnieux. Of course, this is now going on two years ago.

We stayed at Clos d'Estellen. It was very casual and I loved our room and loved the landscape--set up on a hill with a breeze, cherry trees, and quiet. But the owners could have made us feel much more welcome.
There was no soap in our room, and breakfast was the bare minimum. We were never told where things were or how they worked and when we asked, it seemed an inconvenience--ie. Are there seperate towels for the pool? (there were, but we didn't know and it seemed a hinderance when we asked).
Someone else staying there mentioned this to us our first night as he compared it with stays in other places close by and we ended up having the same experience.
The owner walked into our room on my husband then the morning we were checking out asked 5 times when we were leaving (this was at 10am--and we were never told a check out time).
We felt we were imposing on their home instead of paying guests at a B&B.
For that reason, I wouldn't recommend it to others--but such a shame b/c it has such potential.

JES -

Sounds like the Clos d'Estellen needs some "work". No soap in the rooms ? amazing.

Hope to see you next time you're in the region, and glad that, on the whole, you enjoyed your trip.

Patricia,

I'm sure you of all people can appreciate that! Hopefully they'll get some feedback and make some changes because they have a gem of a spot. Although you would think they would have gotten the hang of it after 5 yrs....oh well, we loved our stay anyway
