Has anyone flown with LTU? The prices seem good. Was wondering if there is a hook.

I think it's a new airline -- I've been seeing a ads -- in the paper and in the Travel Expo in NYC over the weekend.

It's not a new airline. It has been around for decades, but I haven't flown them. I believe a large stake holder is WestLB Bank from Duesseldorf, where they are based, too. They filed for bancruptcy a few years ago, I believe, but seem to have sustained. Main business is charter, but they do have a few routes that they fly regularly.
Unfortunately cannot add more to this.

Interesting. Why are they advertising all these routes to Germany from NYC at around 350 for some reason?

I didn't go but went to part of the Rick Steves one.

We used this airline last June to fly non stop from LAX to Dusseldorf. The rates were the best we could find ($642US) at that time of year. They were very attentive with beverage and snacks/meals the entire flight. They showed a couple of movies. If there was a negative, it would be leg room, but it was no worse than any other airline in coach. They do have limited flights, but I would definitely use them again.

LTU was founded 50 years ago, and offers services from Canada, FL, LAX and starting in May from NY to Düsseldorf. They offer reliable service at reasonable prices. Seats in coach are tight, but they also offer business class from $1,800 r/t, food is ok. Take a look at www.ltu.com

Its one of the best charter airlines I know. I been flying with then to most of southern europe. Never used then on trasnstlantic flights though.
Legroom was always more than adequate. Food and service o.k.
Its always good knowing that you fly LTU on your package tour. Its a "1st class charter airline"

I'm pretty sure that's the airline that has been bringing loads of German tourists to Southwest Florida for ages, flying from Dusseldorf to Ft. Myers.

They have been around a very long time, in addition to charters they operate what they call 'scheduled charters' and these operate also to South East Asia, they have been flying into Thailand from places like Dusseldorf, Munich and Hamburg for many years. I have not flown them but know many who have and they use them on a regular basis from Germany to Thailand as good value for money.

Hi elaine, a friend asked me to go so I went. With an AMEX card admission was $5 off (so I paid $10) -- I think that the expo is jointly organized by NYT Amex?

I thought that it was a waste of time, but I picked up a lot of brochures. I was at the Rick Steves seminar for about half an hour because I was curious in what he had to say -- I had this to say on my blog:

"Rick Steves gave a seminar at 3. I went to it out of curiosity and left about halfway through it. He recommended Hallstaat (as an alternative to overrun Salzburg, I think) and Appenzell as a town in the Swiss Alps. He also recommended a hillside town in Lazio (rather than Tuscany) whose name I forget. Interesting factoid -- the Cycladic islands got their name because the islands surrounded the important and scared Delos."

I also went to something at 4 on Cheap New York, and that wasn't too interesting either.

I enjoyed myself. I went to the Rick Steve thing at 11:00 on Saturday. I really wanted to see Arthur Frommer on Sunday, but was unable to go.

I was disappointed somewhat because I thought some of the displays, like the Auto Europe booth, would give a special discount for people to use when renting.

Also, there were a lot of people pushing cruises. But I picked up a free travel book at Frommer's and CIE gave me a current B&B book for Ireland.

Depends on what you were looking for but I felt it was more geared to people interested in tours.

There are actually a lot of tourist info agencies from the various countries -- I remember those from Scandinavia (and from Germany, where I picked up a bunch of beautiful maps). I had my photo taken next to Mt. Fuji (instant thing from a digital camera).

One thing did delight me -- picking up some vintage looking postcards from Amtrak advertising their various rail lines. I like stuff like that.

But all in all I didn't think that it was a good use of time or of $10, but then I wouldn't have known in advance.
