Love Lock Trouble in Paris
They'd been warned about this, but did they listen?
http://www.smh.com.au/travel/travel-...609-39s0s.html |
Once the lovelockers have done their dirty business, they don't care what happens.
I saw a few locks on the Millennium Bridge in London last week. Let's hope it doesn't get this far. Fines for vandalism would be a start.
It is obscene!
Can somebody explain why peopke do this? Was in Paris in 2005 and never say any locks
Excellent! Glad it happened with no one injured as perhaps that will be the end of it.
The defacing has spread to statues and, according to this article, the Eiffel Tower. Anyone watch the Kenneth Clarke series in the 70s? I remember him opening an episode with, "I am standing on the Pont des Arts...." Not at the moment. |
People do it because they are silly and immature, that's all (same reason they watch the Kardashians and the Bachelorette) and have no regard for the environment or their damage to a city. I wonder if Kim Kardashian did that, actually, in her pre-wedding stay in Paris not long ago.
And, of course, local vendors who also don't care about anything but money contribute by selling the locks right near it. ahah, why am I not surprised a Kardashian did do such a thing? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/travel/ar...ce-banned.html and of course Kim had to do it, also http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...-ceremony.html |
STOP this CRAZY FAD.....the beauty of this bridge is no longer....and all the others to come !!
A 500 euro fine, a sign stating that fact, and a few police arresting people could help.
If I had not seen the pictures, I would not have believed that the Kardashians placed locks on the bridge -- obviously, I give them more credit than is their due but I figured that their publicists would have warned them not to do something so stupid. But, let's not blame the lock sellers for doing something legal to make a living.
We first noticed the locks in the fall of 2009 on Passerele Léopolod when there where only a few hundred. By the fall of 2012 you could barely see the Seine through the mass of "locked" love left on the railings on Pont des Arts.
I was glad to see this happened, too. It really is an obscenity! I was so shocked to see this on my recent trip to Paris, SO many more than just 4 years ago. The authorities really do need to do something about this. It used to be such a pleasure to be on the Pont des Arts. No longer!

The Kudzu of Paris has been attacking the monuments now.
