Bastille Day transportation Caen-Paris
We're seeking a shuttle service that could pick up 3 passengers on 14 July from downtown Caen to go to a hotel in Left Bank-St Germain Paris. Any leads would be most appreciated. Pierrot Voyages had to cancel an initial reservation. The SNCF train may be our only option, but it's no bargain for 3 passengers/luggage. Any suggestions for a car & driver? Many thanks.

it'll be about ten times or more cheaper than a shuttle service perhaps.
Train would cost about $40 p.p. and no charge for luggage then take cab from St Lazare to hotel

My son had to take a airport shuttle from Orleans to CDG on a Sunday because of an early flight and no trains could get him there and he paid, for a shared cab, about 100 euros - for a much less distance - 100 euros a person that is - so i'd say about $1,000 dollars would be a bargain from Caen.

Did a quick seearch on SNCF, regular trains. almost hourly, randomly picked date...42 euro for one way ticket (St Lazare station), 2hrs 12 minutes, 1st class. So you'd have to find a shuttle for less than 126 euro. Second class is 28 euro a ticket. Could you find a shuttle for less than 84 euro to go to Paris from Caen? Then....even better, I pcked the 14th of July..there are PREMs tickets for 15 euro!!!!!!!!!
Why did you think train is expensive? A taxi from CDG airport to central Paris can be 55 euro, imagine a shuttle from 2-3 hrs away.

sheila - just curious what was Pierrot charging for the transfer?
i note that this is your first post in over three years and probably your last. Fodorites can be very brutal.

Pierrot Voyages - Trips in normandyBus company offering transport from Paris, Deauville, Trouville or Honfleur to Bayeux.
www.pierrotvoyages.fr
interesting - they offer one-way fares Bayeux to Paris for 65 euros p.p.
or a whole mini-bus for 490 euros.
the train is much cheaper on 14/7 it appears and probably quicker and more comfy.

The OP wants a van and driver and already has an idea of the relative prices, since a "shuttle" had been reserved. Why not focus on the question rather than race down the "my way" tracks?

Try this service:

Don't pay any attention to the "Provence" in the address. The operator is driving autumn visitors, uncle and aunt and friends, from Paris to Normandy.

well because the OP was not clear in that and sounded like the train option would be too dear:
<The SNCF train may be our only option, but it's no bargain for 3 passengers/luggage.>
this misstatement of OP's true desire is OP's fault not respondees who dispelled notion that OP posed that SNCF was too expensive.

Sorry if it seemed like I was "over excited" to show that things were not as expensive as they thought. The statement that trains were no deal 'peaked' my interest.
Just trying to help someone save money, not score points.
My philosphy....public transit is always cheaper than private transit

I think the OP is looking for another group type shuttle - with low prices - not a private shuttle - which obviously would be hundreds of dollars. And, perhaps they're not adept at looking up train fares - which it is obvious are cheaper than even the group shuttle - never mind a private shuttle.
