I'm going to Paris in a couple of weeks and love Louis Vuitton. Could someone tell me how the prices compare to the US. Thanks.

shopper, <BR> <BR>I don't really know how the prices are, but they have a new store on the Champes Eleysee (spelling?) so I would do some comparison shopping. I was told that the prices are comparable to the US so you might not get a good dea. You might want to try Prada. I leave for Paris on Thursday and can't wait. Have a great vacation

The prices in Paris are much better than in the US. You can probably expect to pay about 25% less, maybe more depending on the exchange rate. I must warn you, a month or so ago there was a limit, imagine that , of how many pieces you could buy. The lines were 1-2 blocks long, and you were limited to just the one purchase. How do they know? Well, you have to show your passport. They put your number in when they ring up the sale. If you want to buy more than the allotment, go to another store the same day. Yes, I have read posts from other readers verifying this. A side note, my daughter works at Loius Vuitton at Neimans. (60% discount)Now I don't need to go to Paris. ):

The store I was referrring to is about 2 blocks behind the Champs Elyesse. It seems to be the more friendlier of the bunch. Oh, and they have no seconds, they are destroyed at the factory. If you can buy a few pieces, they will wrap them in their signature bags, and deliver them to your hotel. This is livin'.

Lori, When in Paris did you get to Goyard. I gather that they do a product similar to Louis Vuitton -- not as well known, but very chic amongst those "in the know." I gather that the workmanship is excellent and that they are less expensive that Vuitton!

I haven't been to the Goyard store. I will put it on my list, as I have collected a lot of LV items. I'm starting on the Epi leather now. Hopefully, with the dollar so strong there will be bargains galore. At the least it has got to be better if you buy it direct from Paris. Then when complimented, you can say "Oh, I picked this up in Paris one day".

Diane, <BR>I don't know if they sell this at the duty free airports in Rome. They do not in Paris as far as I know. They have some quirky thing about owning the store space, or leasing department space only run by LV people. If I was going to Rome, I would be dreamin Fendi!

I was in Paris twice in the last 5 months. That particular branch of LV was definitely more crowded than others. ALthough there was a line outside of the door, we walked in the men;s side entrance and right down the steps to the lower level where there was no line at all. Further, the St. Germaine store had no lines at all. In August, we saw lines only one time, right before the store was opening. <BR>There was no place in airport to buy- oether in Air France Terminaq, or the terminal with American Airlines either, <BR>The prices were about 25% off, but one or 2 items were not cheaper. Check your prices before you go. Remeber you also, will save the VAT besides. <BR>The LV Store in Gallerie <BR>Lafayette was always crowded with llnes all of the time- forget that one. Also, for a less expensive but diffrent kinds of bags, lool at Longchamp- at Gallerie Lafayette you will save another <BR>10%. sAVINGS ON THAT LINE ARE ABOUT HALF. Go to Saks to see the line. Also, good for gifts for people-- and they pack small. <BR> <BR> <BR> <BR>

I was in paris in april and purchaase multiple pieces of louie. There discount comes in there exchange rate and our strong dollar in france. also the high inport taxes levied in the US. Here are exact examples of prices i paid in april. <BR> <BR>large elippes bag 3550 ffr ( 4973 us dollars, then 12% tax refund was pposted to my diners club of 45 us dollars, this eact bag is in the lv shop at the westchester mall in white plains ny for 1095. us dollars. <BR>the optional strap was roughly 100 dollars. <BR>tne key case credit card holder was 800 ffr and i also purchased a wallett , which was 650 in the lv and 356 in paris. so shop away. I will be back in paris for christmas and can hardly wait ot shop louis again.

I was in Louis Vuitton's New York store over the weekend. When I mentioned to the salesperson that I was going to Paris in a couple of months he told me to wait until I get there to buy. He confirmed what several posters here have said--prices are about 25% less, plus you get your VAT back.

Most of the info on this post is old. My daughter wants a LV recital handbag. She will be going to Paris next April (04). The value of the dollar is weak now when compared to the Euro. Should I just go ahead and get her this bag for Christmas, or wait and let her purchase it in Paris? Would I save money since the dollar is weak? Do they stock all of the styles at all of the stores?

I would let her purchase it in Paris. I purchased a Prada handbag in Italy last May and even with the weak euro exchange I still saved almost $300. A must do. Don't forget to send in that VAT refund!

Don't know how the prices compare, but I can tell you that the large store on the Champs Elysees has closed. There is one just around the corner on the Avenue George V. Beware of the long queues though; when I went there this Friday the store was full of (mainly) Japanese women.

Even the LV shop in Portofino had prices below ours in the States. Must be due to that importation tax.
