Another day trip you all might enjoy is Portsmouth. The train leaves you off right at the seaport and there are loads of things to interest everyone. The Victory is open and you cn spend several jhours exploring the decks. I don't know if the Mary Rose is open yet. It has been closed for restoration the last time we went. Several museums on the ground to explore along with shops and pubs, and cafes. It is a really nice days outing.

Highlights for our grand-kids, then 10 and 7, in 2007 were the Imperial War Museum, the Churchill Museum, and the Natural History Museum, as well as the performers at Covent Garden. They loved leading the way on the tube and chasing pigeons in the park. Saw and enjoyed Wicked and Mary Poppins. We worried that they would be too young, but both enjoyed the trip immensely, and the seven year old grandson turned into a history buff.

OK. Is the Imperia War Museum a different place than the Chuchill War Rooms? Sorry if this is a silly question.

Yes-- the War Rooms are in Horseguards Rd across from St James's Park, the Imperial War museum is across the river south of Waterloo station
