Lost memory card on Cinque Terre train

I dropped a memory card while getting off the train at Riomaggiore (Cinque terre), at 18.15 approx on 7 June 2012.

The card is black, and 8gb in size. It's almost full and of huge sentimental value. If you happen to have found it- please email me on [email protected]. Will pay a reward!

Many thanks in advance,
Stephen

Good luck! My heart hurts for you! I can just imagine the sick feeling you must have felt when you realized that it had gone missing.

By the way, though it is too late for you, a friend taught me a trick way back in film days. He said that he always carried an index card with his name, address and phone# on it in large black print and took a picture of it at the beginning of every roll on a trip just in case it got lost. I began using that trick and actually had a roll of film returned two years later when someone doing a thorough job of cleaning found a roll at the back of a wardrobe. I still take a picture every time after I clear a memory card. However, those cards are so small, that it would be hard to find.

Sorry and I hope that it turns up!

There is a site for this kind of event: http://www.ifoundyourcamera.net/

I am always afraid of this, so I carry two cameras when possible and use both for important shots. Every night I download pictures to my computer as well as to a backup SD card.

Stephen - I feel so bad for you.

greg - how do you download to a backup card? Do you use your computer and simply copy to a blank card or is there another way.

I'm always afraid of this too. I put my used cards in a snack size baggie inside a zip lock baggie so they don't fall out.

I also use 2gig cards and carry lots of them.

So sorry about this!

I travel with lots of memory cards and will put a new card in each day. I carry two cameras and my D7K has two slots.

Good luck!

What a great site greg! One of the best of simple things on the net!

I bring a netbook with me on trips overseas and dump my memory cards every night to it. But because hard drives can themselves fail, I back up the pictures again to a backup drive every night. I often consume all of my memory cards in a single day, because I shoot a lot of pictures and shoot in RAW format, which takes more space.

I'm always afraid I'll lose a memory card even then - on the same day or something. So far I've been really, really lucky. So sorry for the loss of your pictures, Stephen, and hope a miracle happens and you can get your pictures back!

Hi, really sorry to hear about your memory card loss. I have some shots in the CT taken around 18-25 May if you needed any replacement pics. The obviously won't be the same but Lovener2's camera is high spec so they are pretty good shots.

Thank you all for your kind replies; they helped a lot! Good tips too- no word on the card yet unfortunately. A cautionary tale! Cheers, Stephen
