Lost anything overseas? Has it ever been recovered?
 

I left my beloved ski jacket in the security check area in helsinki a few weeks ago ..tried to go back and get it when I realised it was missing but the boarding pass lady made me leave my passport with her
i raced to customs and they wanted my passport too!

i raced back to the boarding pass lady who became quite officious and rude and waved me to the plane....i couldve made it the first time had she not taken my passport

the air stewardess was lovely and did everything over and above the call of duty and finally came up with an address i could email when i got home
it is an agency that collects lost property from certain places like airports and other public places and holds it for three months
costs 2 euros to make a search
i didnt want to do it via the website so i rang them and lo and behold my jacket is waiting for me!
will be sent as soon as i organise the payment for shipping

i wouldve given up...the airport keeps nothing and i didnt know there was such an organisation
must be one in other countries

Left my favorite sweater in a hotel and it was waiting for me at home when we returned. Laast trip left an umbrella in a security bin at a museum but didn't realize it until it started to rain, so just bought another one.

Whoever who rides the Magical Mystery Tour bus in Liverpool - that L.L. Bean sweater is MINE!

The tour operator hires independent bus contractors, and didn't feel like looking up which one did our trip so I could call them directly.

I left my wallet in a taxi in Shanghai. We phoned the taxi company who phoned the driver all within about three minutes. No wallet in taxi!!! Very stressful. I don't recommend it.

A debit/credit card--- the hotel mailed it to me. Holiday Inn Garden Court Reims City Centre; great staff!

My husband left his sunglasses in a hotle in Vancouver BC. They arrived home before he did. The hotel paid the postage, which was probably more than the sunglasses were worth.

He left his credit card at a B&B in Northumberland, and that was posted home to us, but we cancelled it just to be on the safe side.

He also left his ipod in a hotel near Boston Mass. That never turned up though. Thank goodness for trip insurance.

One day expect his luggage to arrive home without him, when he has forgotten himself :)

I forgot to add that the only thing I lost overseas could never be recovered. Something you can only lose once ;)

In 1995 I leaned an umbrella purchased during an absolute downpour in Salzburg against a wall in St Mark's Square in Venice. Fortunately, it did not rain again on that trip.

Amazingly, it was gone when I returned in 2000. Imagine!

My daughter left a CD in a car we rented from Avis at the Copenhagen airport. We did not bother calling. Imagine our surprise when it arrived in the mail.

Many, many years ago, I left a fabulous belt in my Venice hotel closet. It was a one-of-kind, never-gonna-see-again belt, designed by a famous hip-hop star. It was custom made for a music video and it was FABULOUS. I was in Florence when I realized it was gone and I called my Venice hotel, left my credit card number, and instructed them to ship it to NYC when they found it. They never did. Somebody's wearing my collector's item and probably has no clue of its history or worth.

I lost my favorite, light weight navy blue cardigan in Assisi.
It was a hot day and it was tied to my bag and somehow it got untied, never to be seen again. No big deal, tho'.

Left a ring of moderate monetary but great sentimental value behind at the Parador in Leon, Spain. When I got home I sent an email and had an immediate response that my ring had been found. They charged me for the return mail but it arrived nicely packaged in a very short time. I check hotels rooms much more carefully now---and always double check the small amount of jewelry I take with me.

seriously though so far i am impressed with this organisation in finland..

this jacket of mine it seems is coming home soon! i rang them, they confirmed the jacket was there within a few seconds after an initial ' sorry no sign yet" ... then i emailed details and i got the immediate response that theyre sending it home today!
no ransom note either!
