In winter in Croatia you are looking at average daytime temps of around 50F at the coast

We were in Croatia in November last year and the weather was about 50's during the day and chilly at night; we had to use a jacket most of the time. I imagine that the winter months would be even cooler, so if you are looking for something "Florida-like", Croatia won't be it.

Good luck!

Cyprus is about your best best but if you are trasvelling that far you may as well remain on the plane for another hour and head for Dubai or Eygpt.

After 38 years of trying - I'd say that you are looking for good reliable weather in the med in Winter you may as well buy a lottery ticket as well!

How about Sicily or Malta? I have never been to those places but you can check from other sources.

Madeira Island's geographical position and mountainous landscape result in a very pleasant climate. Temperatures are about 22 °C (72 °F) in the summer and about 16 °C (61 °F) during the winter [4]. With its mild humidity, the weather of the island is classified as subtropical. Influenced by the Gulf Stream, sea water temperature is 22 °C during the summer and 16 °C in the winter

crazychick - good shout!

I have never been but my parents have been everywhere and done everything - they swear by Madeira

The only European places which are warm in winter are the islands in the Atlantic - Canary Islands and Madeira. Forget everything else. Mallorca is moderate, but not really warm.

If we Europeans want some warmth in winter, we usually fly to the Canaries as the nearest places. Seawater is warm enough for swimming.

But if I lived in North America I would spend the winter in the Carribean!

There are hot springs in Budapest and Iceland. That's kinda beachy. Otherwise, Fiji is a ten hour flight from LAX. And as for Florida, yes, it could be 42 for a high or 86. Right now, the lows have been 82, so the 42 will feel good.

I'd second Logos' suggestion - Egypt.

I spent 2 weeks in Naama Bay (- Red Sea) last January and the weather was perfect - 28C every day.

Lots of good deals for excellent hotels there at that time of year ...
