Looking for two under €100 rooms for a weeknight in Fussen or Hohenschwangau
We are thinking of doing one night in Fussen, Hohenschwangau or even Reutte. We are two couples and we will need two rooms. We are trying to save our budget for other parts of the trip so we wuld prefer to pay under €100. (I am showing off my skill at using the € sign that I learned from this board about a week ago)

Hi AisleSeat. We stayed here in both 2000 and 2003. Is clean, quiet, and reasonably priced.
Here is their site:

Hi toes,
I looked at their site and it looks great. Double rooms for Hotel Schwangauer Hof are at only €62. The picutres are nice. I assume you liked it since you have stayed there twice. I am also assuming it is fairly close to the castles since it is in Hohenschwangau.

We stayed at Hotel Das Beck in Reutte last July. I loved the location, scenery, breakfast, helpfulness of staff, etc. I would highly recommend their place. It was 122 Euros for 4 when we stayed there.

When we were in that area, we stayed at the Hotel Moserhof in Reutte, which was around 85 euro/night for 2, including breakfast.
We really enjoyed our stay there - the restaurant was good, the people were very gracious.

AisleSeat- Here's yet another hotel to consider: Gusthof zum Schluxen (www.schluxen.com) We stayed there a few years ago. It's outside of Fussen in a lovely meadow setting but also you can walk thru the forests to the castles if you want.
Nice clean rooms and also a fine restaurant for dinner. Room rate for 2 people @85 euro. The only drawback is you need a rental car as it's not right in a town, but you'll wake up to cow bells instead of horns honking!

So, for the folks who stayed in Reutte, how was it? You must be Rick Steves viewers/readers-at least that's where I heard of it.
We are trying to decide among hotels in Reutte, Mittenwald and Garmisch. Mittenwald seems the cutest, but Reutte seems the most convenient. Any insight you can share?

I do watch Rick Steves occasionally, but I got the recommendation for Reutte from someone on this board, who may very well have gotten his recommendsation from Steves
We liked Reutte pretty well. It isn't as cute as Mittenwald seems - it feels like a place where people really live rather than a tourist destination, so things aren't quite as polished - but still absolutely tidy as can be since it IS Austria - LOL.
The drive from Reutte to Hohenschwangau was easy - I think about 20 minutes. We used mostly secondary roads, which were fun.
We stayed at the Hotel Moserhof, which we really liked. It is a family run place, the room had great views, the people were really nice, and they have a pretty good restaurant as well. We ate in the town center one night and at the restaurant the other two nights. The hotel restaurant seemed to be a pretty popular place - guests and locals - and they have a nice patio area where we had dinner and then sat out with our drinks until late.

We did get the information about Reutte originally from Rick Steve's, but my father had also received information about Reutte years ago from a co-worker. I really liked Hotel-Das Beck. Reutte is a nice small town. We walked all around and ate in a little village close by. We also enjoyed an Austrian Yodeling Night with the local people. The hotel staff told us about a festival that we drove to- we were the only non-locals there. We loved the drive to Fuessen and to the Zugzpitze. We swam in the lake on the way to the Zugspitze and also did the luge. That was a FUN activity! I would go back to stay for a week to relax in Reutte...like a previous person said it is more where people live, and not so touristy.
