Looking for someplace different to stay in Krakow
 

We are arriving in Krakow on May 21st and are looking for a clean and comfortable place to stay (with a private bathroom) for about 40 to 60 euros a night. We would prefer to stay in a quiet and interesting little neighborhood rather than in the tourist areas. We enjoy walking and so wouldn't mind a 15-20 minute walk away from the town center, but we also don't want to stay in some secluded area next to the forest. We are hoping someone has had a similar experience and can recommend the right place.

we loved hotel polonia.
it is an authentic polish run hotel, and has a lot of old world charm, although not luxury .
it was clean, and across from the train station and across from a lovely park.
the neighborhood behind us was residential and we enjoyed shopping there at the public market.

i don't think this hotel is "on the tourist track" too much as no one has ever commented here that they have stayed there. i recommend it and would go back for a simple, correct place.

looks like the prices have gone up, but we did negotiate in person a lower tariff for our room for 4 nights with no problem.

We stayed 3 nights, and enjoyed it. It's perhaps a 15 tram ride from Market Square, + a 3 minute walk. The owners speak English and are very helpful, and the breakfast was great!
We'd stay again, if that's any value.

Krakow has 100s of hotels, pensions, hostels and private homes...plus apartments. Most are not listed or advertised. Prices usually vary inversely with the distance from the city center. Spend your first night in Krakow in a reserved room. Next day, get up and begin your search for, dream accommodations. Far out, stay in a town near Krakow, use the train to travel back and forth! There are hotels near the train stations.

Thank you very much for the good ideas. We secured a room for our first night and then as suggested, we are going to check out the various neighborhoods and look for other hotels or B&Bs. I can't wait to start our trip.

I have been reviewing other posts and appreciate the good information, especially about restaurants. Looking forward to trying the local dishes. Does anyone have a favorite restaurant they can recommend based on the food and the ambience? Thanks again.

Meals. The Europski Hotel offers a dinner that is a combination of Polish dishes. It is for two people...we thought it could well serve three people!
