Looking for some suggestions

We are planning a trip to the Greek islands in 2005, and would appreciate some suggestions, tips, and ideas on islands, hotels, transportation, must see/do items. Santorini is one of the islands we plan on visiting, and we will have about eleven or twelve days to do this travel and are not planning on doing the 25 cities in 15 days type of tours.

We are thinking no more than a total of three islands (with Santorini being one of the three).

Having traveled through the Caribbean for the past years, we have stayed in luxury hotels, quaint hotels, but always enjoyed the people, the local flavor and such.

Should you wish to email me direct please do so at [email protected]. All responses are appreciated.

Yes, I have a suggestion. Post a new header with Greek Islands in the header. Everybody on this board is "Looking for some suggestions".

By the way, there is no "Greece" board. All questions go on the "European Board".

There is a Greece subcategory, that's how I found this posting. Not to worry, Mark, others will respond.

Since you've already decided on Santorini and you're total time is 12 days, I suggest that you confine your choices to those islands nearby Santorini, all known as the Cyclades. You can travel between them by car ferry or Flying Dolphin express boat. Mykonos, Ios, Naxos and Paros are the most widely travelled, but there are several others: Sikinos, Folegandros, Amorgos, Anafi, Sifnos as well as others. Not all are easily reached. You need to keep track of the timetables that connect these islands. Once you learn to navigate the website below it will be of great help to you in your search. Just keep flexible and know that the schedules can change without notice and the boats don't depart if the winds are high.

Crete can also be easily reached from Santorini, it's only 65 miles south.

I suggest the most beautiful village of Oia on Santorini unless you need to be in the middle of all the shopping and nightlife, in which case I recommend Fira or Firostephani.
