Looking for safe, clean, quiet, reasonably priced hostel/hotel in Paris
 

My college-aged daughter is currently participating in a study abroad program in Paris for this summer. She is staying at FIAP Jean Monnet.

I have decided this is a great reason to go to Paris. My hubby can’t get off work, but says that I should go visit her with our other 14 year old daughter. I would like to stay in a safe, clean, quiet and reasonably priced hostel/hotel. Don’t want to be near the party scene. Can’t stay at FIAP since I’m over 30 and my other daughter is younger than 18.

Any suggestions on where to stay?

You will need to give us a budget if we are to make meaningful suggestions.

I will just toss the Ibis Budget on avenue Laumière in the 19th out onto the (nonexistent) pile of suggestions. Cheap, clean, calm, modern and very close to the excellent Buttes Chaumont park and also close to the Bassin de la Villette which has a bit of festive nightlife where you can walk along the water and observe activity in total safety when you get tired of "quiet."

Without a budget window, in euros, any suggestion is really pointless.

I agree, as the fact that you mention hostel makes me suspect you want something as cheap as that residence facility. I know plenty of safe and clean hotels, and some may be cheap by some standards, but I'll bet not yours if you are comparing the rate to a hostel. I think that FIAP charges more than a typical hostel, though, doesn't it? I don't quite follow you on why you can't stay there, it sounds like they are just not a regular hotel, of course, so some adults with a young kid is clearly not staying there as a student or intern. No, they aren't just like a hotel and will let anyone stay there with a family. Because I don't think they have any age limit per se.

So you want a double room with twin beds, right? I know that area and stay there often, but that's why the budget i simportant. Also, your wish list can't be guaranteed in any hotel I've stayed in -- the quiet part. Even if a hotel is not right on bd St Germain or bd St Michel or somewhere really noisy, any hotel where you open the windows, if it looks onto almost any street, may be a bit noisy. And very cheap hotels can have really narrow corridors and thin walls (even more expensive hotels may have that), so any particular room may be noisy just to people in the hotel. I've been in plenty of hotels that would have been quiet if it weren't for the people slamming doors or talking loudly in the hallways, let alone through the walls. Unfortunately, no hotels are going to have rules about guests talking in hallways or slamming doors.

Aside from the budget question, do you want to stay near your daughter at FIAP Jean Monnet? If so, within walking distance?

I don't know what reasonable means to you in terms of amount spent per night but I know two good safe and clean hotels that are near (10-minute or less walk) FIAP Jean Monnet: Hotel du Lion and Hotel du Midi.

And could you inform the OP of the rate for these hotels? So far, we are all wondering about the budget, but it doesn't realty help in nobody gives precise figures.

I confess that I am guilty of that as well. The rate for the Ibis Budget for the moment is between 61 and 81 euros a night depending on the day of the week.

Thank you all for your comments. I was looking at my college daughter's hostel just now. It actually looks like I could purchase a room with 2 twin beds for $87.00-$120.00 US dollars depending on the day. (But they don't have consecutive days available). As long as I am not staying in a dorm, I think the fact that we are outside of the 18-30 age parameter would be fine. I have looked at flights, and so far July 15-23rd looks best for our family, based on the cheapest fares I could find today.

My budget? I don't have a hard and fast budget. Ideally, I would like to spend around $100-$200 US dollars ( 85 - 170 Euros) per night or less as long as I am not compromising cleanliness, safety, etc... I would feel comfortable staying 5 nights at this rate. I'd prefer not to use my money on elaborate accommodations during this trip and use that money toward other things:) I don't mind not having air conditioning. We are already taking 2 other trips this summer, so I am trying to squeeze this one in as well.

Ideally, I would like to find a place where my husband could join us if he changes his mind at the last minute. I don't have to be right near my college daughter. She will be in college classes during the day. It would be nice to be near her, but not necessary. Just don't want to be in party district. And want it to be safe. I'm pretty flexible, just want it to be safe and clean:)

Ibis budget could be as cheap as 2 hostel charges or not much more and maybe a thrid person could come too?
