Going to Ireland June 6-June 18. Renting a car and starting our trip in Dublin. Any suggestions on best places to stay? Also, would you advise staying in a closer city to Shannon airport on our last day?

Day 1 - Depart Cleveland
Day 2 - Arrive in Dublin mid-morning
Day 3 - Dublin
Day 4 - Cork (depart Dublin for Cork)
Day 5 - Cork

Day 7 - Killarney (depart Cork for Killarney)
Day 8 - Killarney
Day 9 - Killarney
Day 10 - Galway (depart Killarney for Galway)
Day 11 - Galway
Day 12 - Galway to Shannon
Day 13 - Depart Shannon mid-morning

Yes, on the night before your departure you should stay close to Shannon. You indicate a mid-morning flight. You have to leave time for car return and transfer to the airport, then check-in, luggage drop, security and US Customs. US citizens clear customs in Dublin or Shannon upon their departure. This can take 10 minutes or there can be a line. Leave enough time. You could consider staying in Ennis or Bunratty.

Second tip, don't pick up the car until you are leaving Dublin. A car in Dublin is a hindrance.
