Looking for one way rental to France
We are looking for a one way rental of a car from either Amsterdam or Brussels for a week in Normandy (dropping at a ferry town). Any size restrictions recommended? Also would prefer a covered trunk, for obvious reasons. Two people and 2 suitcases.
Have tried autoeurope but can't get a oneway rate altho they emailed me they would. Anyone have experience with this? Thanks for your help in advance. |
Usually, Autoeurope will "advise" you that there may be a drop charge and if there is they will e-mail that with the final price quote within 24 hours. Is that what you are referring to?
I assume you feel you need the car between the starting point and Normandy as opposed to using one just to get there. Have you tried calling Autoeurope on their toll-free number? |
Are you from the US? Most national rental companies also operate in Europe, such as Avis, Hertz... you can get estimates online.
Other Europe rental companies: Sixt Europcar Kemwel Beware the drop-off fee for leaving car in different country than where you rented it. You could take a train from Brussels to Lille (or Paris), then pick up the car, since you really only need it in France. |
Hi d,
In general, one-way rentals across borders incur a hefty drop-off charge. Is there a reason why you want to drive to France? ((I)) |
Why not just drop the car as close as possible to the border and then take the train to France to pick up a new rental there?
In France, we like the Renault Laguna, a comfortable size for two. Covered trunks are becoming very hard to find, unfortunately--most rentals are now hatchbacks. Telephone autoeurope rather than e-mailing and ask about the drop charge. |
