Looking for nice inexpensive hotel in Venice in Sept 06.

We've been looking for a hotel in Venice and it's pretty confusing. Maybe some of you have stayed at a nice, moderately-priced hotel. Thanks

We enjoyed the Hotel Ala - great location, clean, comfortable. I would say it's moderately priced.

Is there a difference between "inexpensive" which is what you said in your title, and "moderately-priced" which you used in your question?

How about a dollar or euro figure per night? I consider around $170 to $190 a night moderate in Venice. Do you?

Like Patrick says, what do you consider inexpensive? We stayed at the Hotel Galleria which is right on the Grand Canal. We loved it and it was not expensive....well not for Venice which is an expensive city. It was nice, not fancy, great location, friendly staff.

(There are heaps of references to the Galleria on this forum, you can try a search.)

Have you read any of the MANY threads here about this topic? IF you enter Venice Hotels in the search box,you should find loads of information.

If you haven't yet,try tripadvisor.com as well.

I have stayed at Pensione Accademia and found it to be a lovely inn at a reasonable price, but I don't know what your budget is.

I like Pensione La Calcina very very much (as do many other posters on this board). I consider it moderate for Venice, but it's not exactly inexpensive. www.lacalcina.com

Try the "Albergo Marin" website.I stayed there a couple of years ago and found it to be very clean with a helpful staff.

It's about a 5 minute walk from the train station and in a nice area.

Prices quoted for 2005 are 60-90 euro for a double with bath.

I loved Hotel Mercurio. Roughly around 120 euro per room per night with breakfast. We had a room on the canal which was just lovely. Watching the gondolas go past in the evening with the music playing was so beautiful. The hotel is situated 5 minutes either way from Rialto Bridge and St Mark's. Pleasant staff, clean rooms and great coffee! I'd stay again if I was going back.
