Looking for Lodging Websites for Nottingham

I've already searched through several websites that I found through the great Fodorites. I've found a few possibilities for Lincoln and York, but I haven't found anything that fits for Nottingham.

Can anyone post some links to websites for self-catering and/or B&Bs?

In particular, our daughter needs a 3-4 night stay near Univ. of Nottingham in Jan. 2009. A B&B would be okay as would a small apartment. Something that's close to the university and in a decent neighborhood would be great. The postcode for the university is NG7 2RD.

Thanks!

Has your daughter called the university? Quite likely they have parents and lecturers and guests come to town often and they might have some good pointers for you?

This might be too pricey for her but looks very nice and not too far from the Univ.

One way to find places is to first plot the Univ. on maps.google.com and then use the "search nearby" function for bed and breakfast. You can also look at other b & b listing on tripadvisor.

Will she have a car? I have a friend who comes from Nottingham and will try to ask her tomorrow.

The Univ website has every bit of information she would need. From maps, to info about residence hall accommodation outside of term time, to its own "off campus" booking service w/ phone numbers and e-mail addresses . . . . .

flanner, janis -

Our daughter has already arranged everything herself. She just found out yesterday that she would not be allowed into her student housing until one day before classes begin. She wants to arrive in England 4-5 days prior in order to get over jet lag and find her way around.

She has followed up all leads on the website and was hoping to get closer than 1.5-2 miles from the University. I stepped in to help her because she is finishing up at school before the Thanksgiving break.

Trust me - she is very ready for this and we have no doubts as to her capabilities. I'm just a mom helping out a bit.

mclaurie - thanks, you are most helpful. The B&B looks very nice and the price is reasonable. Thanks for the llinks and also for reminding me that I can google B&B's from google website. I had forgotton about that function.

Since it appears that my post chastising flanner has been deleted -I want to again say - shame on those who can't post helpful information, flanner and janis, and instead wish to be argumentative and judgemental.

This non-responsive type of post is surely a deterrent to new posters (which I am not). Fodors editors - take note.

Anybody have any other website ideas for me?

Sheesh - the editors DID take note! Your post was deleted because flanner's was nuked. There was no reason to leave yours "chastising" his since Fodors got rid of it. Why should they leave yours in place? It really is getting too touchy around here. It as if the US editors/posters want everyone to conform to overly-pc US sensibilities. I really do feel bad for some who think the whole world has to adjust to our vocabulary/habits.

I lived in the UK for several years and totally get, and am "un-offended" by, some of the posts by our Brit members that seem to send some touchy/prissy posters around the bend.

BTW - MANY words/phrases Americans post on here are pretty darn offensive to some in other countries, yet we don't find them tattling to the editors every time they see something iffy.

As mentioned - the University website and booking office really is your best resource. They will know every single accommodation in the area.

janis - the website does not know every single thing around there. I was simply asking for more input.

Cheese louise - does every simple question one asks require background explanations??? Why can't y'all take me at my word that I have tried the U Nott site and it is not adequate?

Don't worry about it, Soogies. It's a sort of hazing ritual for a couple of Brits & Brit wannabes. :)

You should try http://www.smoothhound.co.uk/ and type Nottingham into the location search. Smoothhound is (arguably) the most comprehensive directory of B&B's and hotels in the UK. Many of the hotels listed here have links to their own websites if you need more info.

I hope your daughter enjoys her stay at Nottingham. I've guest lectured there a couple of times and it's a very friendly campus.

Carrybean - thanks for the kind words.

Gordon - Thanks for the website link. It looks like it will be a great help.

janis - I apologize that I lumped with flanner. Your post was innocuous. And you rightly called to my attention that my post chastising flanner was in poor judgment. I was just angry and irritated. I can't tolerate when my kids are insulted (which, of course, you didn't do). Can we be friends again?

janisj Nov 23rd, 2008 10:01 AM

soogies: I was was posting totally in response to you saying &quot;<i>Since it appears that my post chastising flanner has been deleted -I want to again say - shame on those who can't post helpful information,</i>&quot;

And - I never said you should rely on JUST the uni's website - I mentioned twice that they have a <u>booking office</u>. Pick up the phone.

(That is helpful information)
