The stop is called GARIBALDI because the train station is on Piazza Garibaldi. You go one stop from DANTE, then change at MUSEO.

If this is the one, perhaps a look at their own site might help?

I am so glad that you are staying at Il Granaio because it looks so lovely and gets such good reviews!

When are you going on this jaunt?

tarquin-
Yes, I know, and that's why I'm so confused. I've been all over this site, looking at every page, and cannot see Garabaldi listed as a stop. What am I missing? Line 2 is the one I want, right? And it's not listed on this web site.

A_Brit- I've seen their site, thanks!

eks-We're going in October. You?

You might not see Garibaldi as a stop as the website says the stop is under construction.

I don't know if this will help you figure out transport or not, but on the Campania Artecard website, you can scroll down, click on a site and all the transport options to the site are listed (metro#,bus#). If there is a site near your apartment, you can click it for transport.

http://www.artecard.it/#

They also have a transport map with the sites marked and transport.

http://www.artecard.it/network_map_metronapoli.pdf

Unicocampania has multiple transport maps for Naples (downtown, etc.) on this link.

You're not to know it, but Line 2 isn't operated by the company whose site you've been looking at - it's run by Trenitalia.

For a combined map, try...
http://www.unicocampania.it/files/mappe/mapparotary.pdf

or some of the others here...

On Peter's second website, the map for Metropolitana shows the connection.

Believe me, I did the trip last month and it works. Dante to Museo, change for Garibaldi. It took about half an hour as there is some walking involved to make the change, cost 1.20 euro.

Perhaps the route is easier to understand by the inclusion of a key element...

Dante to Museo station - Line 1

Museo, underground walkway through to Cavour station

Cavour to P. Garibaldi - Line 2

Ok! Now I get it. Thanks taking me through "Naples Metro for Dummies."
Wondering how long that walk is between Museo and Cavour. I'll be coming into Naples via train from Rome after a flight from LAX. After being up for 24 hours I'm not sure how I'll feel. Perhaps a taxi would be better.

I would just hop in a taxi after your long flight.

The walk between Museo and Cavour isn't that long, about 2 minutes. However, the subway trains do not run that frequently and sometimes you can stand for 15 minutes waiting for a connection. Total waste of time.

That's why we thought it was easier and faster to just walk everywhere. But in your case, after a long day of travel, I would spend the money on a cab.

It was 10E for us to travel from the train station to Piazza Bellini, FYI.

I don't know why people have told you the first apartment you posted is not central in Napoli. You can walk everywhere from that apartment you would want to go except Vomero -- and the funicular is right there for that -- and the Museo Capidimonte. If you are planning to spend every single day outside of central Napoli seeing the the sights of antiquity beyond the city, then you should give yourself easier access to the train station via Metro.

But if you are planning on discovering Napoli beyond the two usual toruist stops -- the archeology museum and the Capella Sansevero -- that other apartment is as good as any other location.

If you want to pick some other place for some other reason, do so. But the location of that apartment is just fine for exploring Naples.

PS; THere was some comment that the area wasn't as lively as the piazza Bellini. First of all, it is only a few minutes walk to the piazza Bellini from that apartment, but it is also much closer to the posh and historic cafes of Napol, the theatre and many popular restaurants.

Kristina,

I just did a calculation using the via Michelin website as to how long it takes to walk from the location of that apartment with the terrace to piazza Bellini because I wanted to make sure I didn't give you wrong information.

It takes 20 minutes. Think you can handle that?

Furthermore, I now notice it said in this thread that the apartment with the terrace "is near the via Veneto." There is no "via Veneto" in Napoli. There is a via Vittorio Veneto, and it is nowhere near the location of the apartment. It is near the airport.

LASTLY -- this is ridiculous -- the idea that you should take a car in Napoli is just nuts -- one of the reasons I never agree with FlannerUK and I wouldn't listen to somebody who did.

You seem very impressed with the information you've gotten -- Napoli for Dummies, indeed. Before you start using it to make costly choices, I suggest you track down some people who actually know the town.

Wow Zeppole - tell us what you really think!

While it may be only a 20 minute walk each way to get to and from an area the OP will likely spend a lot of time exploring, wouldn't it be even better to already be IN that area?

Also, every 20 minutes counts a lot more to a person on a very brief visit to Naples than it does to someone who lives there.

If the OP wants a certain apt. and is willing to walk an extra 20 minutes to get to an area with a higher concentration of tourist sites, that's fine. She wanted opinions on the apartment and got a range of them - including yours now.

Zeppole- I do appreciate the time you've taken with your replies and you've given me a lot to consider, so thank you.
I also want to clarify one thing; I didn't say "napoli for dummies" I said "Naples Metro for Dummies" and yes, I was impressed with that info because I clearly could not figure out what was going on with the metro system by myself.

As for the apartments in question, they're all nice and it sounds like all have their advantages and disadvantages as it pertains to their neighborhoods.
The one closest to Piazza Dante is substantially less expensive than the others, so that factor alone might be the tipping point. While I do like the one with the terrace because of the terrace and the view, I have to ask myself how much time we will have to really enjoy it and will the weather cooperate to make it worth choosing that one over the other.

We stayed for a week in a B&B near the Duomo, about a 20 minute walk from Piazza Bellini. We both agreed that next time we'd stay closer to the more central Piazza Bellini.

Kristina, you are right about the balcony, you won't spend much time there with Naples available outside your door.

We stayed in the Megaron B&B in a massive palazzo opening right onto Piazza Dante. It was extremely conveniently located and the Mexico coffeshop was just downstairs. That area is full of activity and interest. To get to the P.Bellini, you go through a pedestrian passageway lined with bookshops and stalls. I would definitely recommend that area.

If you can bear teacher to continue.....

As it won't be shown in many guidebooks or on maps, let me note - especially for anyone visiting the city, but also for those who like to keep current with the state of its transport system - that one of the the new stations on line 1 opened earlier this year....

http://corrieredelmezzogiorno.corrie...13760388.shtml

It's marked as "Universita" on maps, and is accessible from the newly-smartened Piazza Bovio - from whence the tunneling equipment has gone, and....

http://www.ansa.it/web/notizie/photo...671637126.html

A much nicer home for the old boy?
http://www.pbase.com/isolaverde/image/129459532

For the time being there seems to be just a shuttle to and from the Piazza Dante station, which runs through the unopened ones without stopping.... but it might nevertheless be useful if thinking of a stay in that area?

It was not open this past May. Note the chains across the entrances.
