Looking for ideas

First time to Spain. Will be in LaAlberca for 1 week, would like to plan a week trip somewhere else.What would be better? take a bus to Potugal or a road trip to northeast Spainish coast.

A road trip on that Basque coast would be great...as long as you are not there during high season...end of July and August. You might end up in Portugal going that way...but wouldn't that be nice?

Thanks "fisches" for your reply. Being an absolute beginer at this sort of travelling I am wondering several things;
- hard to rent/drive in Spain not knowing ANY Spanish? add to that it would be 2 middle age women touring!!!!
- do we need to rent from this side of the Atlanic?
- we are at a bit of a loss to know which direction to go for 1 week in a rental?
- We want to be brave but also wonder should we get onto a bus tour, if so which tour?
I've been checking the B&B sites and think there just won't be enough time to see them all. What can easily be done from Madrid going out to the smaller towns? Will language be a problem in the smaller towns? We would be in Spain approx June 8 - 15 then on to our week in LA Alberca.
Any thoughts or words of wisdom will be helpful.

JoCo: One reasonn you have received very little response is because your thread has a VERY general title. "Looking for ideas" could be asking anything about anywhere in Europe.

Something like "1 week in LaAlberca. Where to go for 2nd week?"

While I could take you to task, janis, for offering this useful and helpful guidance to JoCo, I will rather... support you for providing this assistance.

;)

Best wishes,

Rex
