Looking for hotel near Piazza Navona?

Hi all,

We are going to Rome from January 29-February 4th of this year. (yes-in about a week! Nothing like waiting 'til the last minute! :o)) We are booked at the Hotel Center 3 near the Train Station, but we are not happy with that location after doing some research.

Can anyone recommend a nice hotel near the Piazza Navona/Pantheon area for around (or under) $175 a night? I am searching this site and many others, but I was hoping that you could give us a suggestions from actually having been somewhere.

If anyone has any suggestions, please post them here or email them to me directly. We are leaving VERY soon and I need to change the reservations quickly.

Thanks for any ideas!

~Anne

It's a coincidence you ask this question. I just inquired at Albergo Santa Chiara which is close to Pza. Navona. You should be able to get a low season discount. I asked about February however and they quoted me 132 euro/night including buffet breakfast. But I see you want to leave in a couple of weeks-not sure about availability there but you should ask! It gets many favorable reviews here.

At such short notice, I'd try an availability seach on the venere.com site. You can plug in your dates and sort by location - it will tell you what's available and at what cost.

You can then either book through the site, or call the hotel directly (my preference.)

Anne, we liked the following hotel. If they have availability, grab it. It's a Fodor favorite as well.
We paid about $160 for a double in Oct. 2001. Abundant breakfast buffet was included. Short walk to Piazza Navona.

Hotel Due Torri
Vicolo del Leonetto 23 Rome
00186Tel: (06) 6876983 or 6875765
Fax: (06) 6865442
http://www.hotelduetorriroma.com/
[email protected]
I also recommend Albergho del Senato, which is just a few steps form the Pantheon on Piazza della Rotunda.
I stayed there over the Christmas Holiday and found the location to be excellent!
It is a about a five minute walk from Piazza Navonna, and a ten to fifteen minute walk from Campo dei Fiori.
We stayed at the Hotel Portoghesi, a short walk to the Piazza Navona, in the Spring of 2001. Nice hotel, great location. I think their rates are in that range. www.hotelportoghesiroma.com

I stayed at the Hotel Genio on Via Zanardelli and the location was prime.

http://www.venere.it/roma/genio/

About a couple of blocks from Piazza Navonna (loved the area at night!), walking distance to Vatican, Pantheon, we walked everywhere, never had the need to train to any of the main sights. They are running a special 140 Euros/double; great price! Very clean, courteous staff, good-sized rooms (considering it is Europe). I loved just out the hotel door to turned the corner and walked down Via dei Coronari, filled with antiques shops and that old Rome feel! If I turned the other way, down Pont St. Angelo and on to the Vatican. I wish I was there right now. Have a great time.

Santa CHiara is very nice. It's located behind the Pantheon, very close to Piazza Navona.

Beware the www.58viacavour.it post above. It's an ad. It's all over the site like a pesky little fly.

If you like simply, try Hotel Primavera.

It's only a 2 star so it's pretty basic but the location is fantastic. We just stayed there for 2 nights a couple of weeks ago and would again.

Hi Anne: I second Hotel Due Torri - a couple blocks from Piazza Novona, small but clean rooms and very helpful desk clerks. Have a wonderful time in Roma - my husband and I feel in love with the city this past Oct.
Anne -

Please let us know where you ended up! I suggested a search on venere.com mainly because your arrival date was only about a week away from the date of your posting - 1/29. People have suggested great places for you, but they are mostly small peoperties that book up well in advance even in low season. (It doesn't do you much good to hear about wonderful hotels that don't have any availability....)
