Looking for help--Munich-Paris-London trip

Ok I am planning a trip for myself and my 19 year old daughter. We will be leaving in mid to end of May next summer (2013). We will have 18 days on the ground with 1 travel day added to beginning and end. We want to go to Munich then Paris then London. From what I have read it might be better to do it in that order rather than flying into London and doing it London/Paris/Munich. We will travel between cities/countries by train. I am at the beginning of planning and I have been reading as much as I can on here and have found some ideas. Just wondering if anyone has any info on the order of our cities, hotels in each city, etc. Thanks! I will continue reading in hopes of finding more answers!

I would do a search for hotels above as there are many threads on this. If you want specific recommendations you will need to give us a budget (€xx or £xx a night).

As for the order, either way makes sense but you may feel more comfortable flying into an English speaking country if this is your first trip to Europe. London to Paris or vice versa is easy on the eurostar www.eurostar.com to book - book as soon as you can to get the cheapest prices.

Souns like a lovely trip!

Thanks, probably looking at €200 -250 a night budget. I have my hotel in Munich, staying at a military resort

If you are taking a train between those cities, why would it matter which order they were in in terms of which direction you start, it will be basically the same issues, won't it? I don't understand why it would matter other than just your personal preference in terms of where you want to start.

I would check the price of the airline ticket for both itineraries and see if there is a price difference. Sometimes there is enough to make a decision if you have no other preference in terms of direction. I'm not sure about this, but I think there is a very large airport tax at Heathrow for departures and if there isn't in Munich, that could make a difference in choice, but that can be told by the ticket price when you check as it should be included. Maybe there is also a tax for arrivals, don't know, in which case that wouldn't matter. Or, one could choose based on which way they would rather have a nonstop flight, if that is possible (such as London).

Okay after further research, we are flying into London and out of Munich. I am looking at possibly a nicer hotel to splurge on in either Paris or London, right in the middle of the tourist areas in either place. Any suggestions of which city would be better than the other for hotel views, etc to splurge on

I really have no idea, I don't think of any big city as usually having great views, you usually have views of buildings and streets. And really spectacular views usually involve very expensive hotel rooms (like penthouse suites or something). I usually try to avoid looking out onto the main street at a hotel because it is noisier.

I don't know any great hotel views in London, somebody else can maybe recommend that, there are probably some rooms with nice views of a park or something. People always want views of the Eiffel Tower in Paris but they aren't that easy to come by in a hotel. The problem is for great views you need high rooms and some of the hotels with views of the Eiffel Tower aren't right in the middle of the tourist area, like this one (the Tower isn't near the main tourist area so a view of it from a hotel closer to Notre Dame, for example, would be pretty far away).

Here's a hotel with a pretty nice superior view room, you can see a photo of it towards the bottom http://www.hotel-duquesne-eiffel-par.../en/rooms.html It's superior rooms are around 290 euro next May.

I would think more about location than views in either Paris or London.

I think I would make London my splurge, because I find I get more for my money in Paris, less in London. So to me, London is the better choice for spending a little "extra" above my budget.

Other than views, what type of location would you prefer? Hip, quaint, quiet, elegant? There are so many choices!
