Looking for feedback for the Montebello Splendid?

Has anyone actually stayed at the Montebello Splendid in Florence that can give me some good or bad feedback about it? I would really appreciate it!

Topping. Was also considering this hotel. Is it very far from the main center?

Here is the link to reviews on tripadvisor:

The location is anything but central. It's a long way from any of the major points of interest in Florence. Go to

www.mappy.com

and enter the address.

Hello Limoncello:

I stayed at the Montebello Splendid in September 2001. I wrote the following my my trip report (search on "ger florence")

"MONTEBELLO SPLENDIDO
460,000 Lire per Night (Ouch!): Excellent location but, at the price, FAR more than I generally spend. I have no idea if this hotel constitutes value for money in Florence for a Four star hotel as I have not stayed in an hotel in Florence before. Great location, on a small, quite street (Montebello) within 15 mins walking distance from Ponte Vecchio and very close to the train station. I had a very lovely room with King-size bed overlooking the garden, where you can have breakfast and drinks. Staff were in "livery" (morning suits etc.) and efficient rather than overtly friendly. Who would stay here?: Lovely hotel, but tell me what a 4 STAR room in an hotel costs in Florence? "

I have no idea what 460K lire translates into :) I don't even know if I would consider it expensive today. It was the ONLY hotel available on short notice, so I did not do any comparative shopping.

The hotel in not in the centre, but its only about a 15 min walk to the Ponte Vecchio, so it is hardly "remote", if, like me, you are someone that likes to walk.

Based on my experience in 2001, I would highly recommend it and would stay there again.

If you don't mind me asking, what is the current rate?

Regards Ger

OReilly~ I'm just now seeing your response from a few days ago. We are paying 290 Euros. I'm getting concerned about the location....being too far off from the center of things. We leave Wednesday, so not too much time to make changes!!!!
