Looking for "carry on" luggage
 

We are looking for carry-on luggage that is 22x18x10 - We can only find 22 x 14 or 15 x 10. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks

I am no expert, but I thought that most airlines limit carry on luggage to a total measurement of 45 inches. That is adding the three dimensions of height, width, and depth. That usually works out to a 22" x 14" x 9" bag. The bag you are looking for might not fit in most of those measurement devices at the gate.

I know what you are saying about the measurements (45 inches) but on Brit. Air the measurements for a carry on can not exceed 22 x 18 x 10 Every inch counts ! Go figure --Thanks

You likely won't find bags w/ those dimensions since few if any airlines will allow them in the cabin.

The main problem is the 18" side. That is way too big. You want to aim for 45 total linear inches. 22+18+10 = 50 inches. 22+14+9 = 45 inches.

Our posts crossed. I wouldn't base a luggage purchase on one airline's rules. 45 inches is pretty standard

You should also be aware that luggage manufacturers usually give the dimensions of the interior of the bag. Thus a 22" bag you buy in good faith might actually measure 25" when you include the handle and wheels. Perhaps you can smoosh it into the measuring frame, but you might have to check it. I haven't been to Europe for two years, but I understand the airlines are becoming more strict.

Deedee if you are one of those many-outfit people who really suffer at downsizing ... have you given thought to the "personal bag" (i.e. shoulder bag/purse) that you may also carry on. If you maximize the carrying-power of this item (while at the same time, making it look "light" and "personal"), you might be able to offload some of the stuff that won't fit into 22 x 14 x 9.

As for the that 45" total roll-on, the interior matters. Shun the dividers; keep it open This year I went down from my trusty and sturdy 10-year-old 22" Travel-Pro, with a central opening, flaps, etc. I went to a 20" with one main compartment.... plus a lid that could unzip & give 2+" more height.

I fitted ALMOST as much in the 20" bag as the old 22"; I jam-packed my "personal" shoulder bag with the overflow. Upon landing, unzipped the top of the rolling-bag to make it fatter and put the overflow in ... since I didn't have to keep the roller compact once on land.

travelerjan,,,I am not suffering from "down sizing" & I am not a "many outfit' kind of girl. What I am trying to do, is not CHECK-IN any luggage & travel with just my carry on. I think I will stick with the luggage I have used many times in the past that is 22x 14 x 9. Better to be safe than sorry. Thank you
