You posted on the Spain message board: August is the month many Europeans get their vacations and lots of them head for Spain. So, the more popular the spot, the more crowded & expensive it will be. I like Vigo, Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain on Spain's Atlantic coast about 50km north of the Minho river. Baiona, where Columbus made landfall on his return from his first Voyage of Discovery, is nice (Parador del Conde de Gondomar). Playa Samil (in Vigo) is also very nice.
'Dublin' in Vigo is an Irish Niteclub / Pub where the Chieftains recorded some of their Santiago album (Carlos Nuñez, from Vigo was lead bagpiper).
Unless you're very close to the ocean, August is very hot at Spain's southern beach resorts; and few of the discos have air conditioning.
