Looking for artistic places and events to explore in frace
Hi everyone!
I am visiting France for the first time in December and was looking for any concerts or any other special events happening between 11th to 24th Demcember. I would also appreciate if anyone could inform me about the best sources to find the scheduled events with rating in december. Also wondering which are the best places to see musicals in Paris, Nice or Cannes. We are art lovers and would love to explore some off beat places which are not necessarily touristy.
Thanks a ton!

A concert at St. Chapelle in Paris is lovely. It is cold inside, so dress warmly. We heard Vivaldi's FOUR SEASONS and it was a very nice concert.

Nice and Cannes are generally appalling places to go in December since they live for the summer season. Are they already on your list? Marseille would be much better because at least it is a real city with real cultural events.
As for musicals (which will be in French of course), Paris generally has 3 or 4 playing at any given time. As for other cities, it is just the luck of the draw as to which musicals might be on tour there at the time.

This website will give you an overview of major concerts and events all over France. Fnac has shops in several Paris locations. They charge a reasonable fee to book tickets, no huge mark-ups.

Nice appalling in December? LOL. I wonder how many of the area 350,000 inhabitants live solely for the summer season and how they manage to live in an unreal city the remainder of the year!
Winter is the best time of the year to visit - the summer crowds have gone, the Opera season is in full swing, there are concerts, exhibitions and the weather is nice. Add several museums in and around Nice : Matisse, Chagall, Fondation Madght, Cocteau, Léger .......
Here is a brief list of cultural events next December : http://www.linternaute.com/agenda/ville/24381/nice/7/

Just spent the day in Marseille yesterday. Lovely. We were there for 3 days in late February 2013 and quite enjoyed it as they were busily getting ready for their shot at being European Cultural Capital.
We spent the time yesterday at the newly done areas near Fort Saint Jean. Very nice and the Vieux Port seemed much fresher as well.

For local concerts, just get an entertainment guide in the city when you get there, at a newsstand. They list everything. I know Paris has this, I presume Nice does as it is so big. Musicals, also, although those would be more the big "show" concept and will be on ticket websites like FNAC.
You can usually find special events on a city's tourism website.

If art glass appeals to you, head over to Biot and the excellent International Art Glass Museum. It's below the old village and opposite the glassblowing atelier, where you can watch the artisans at work.
In Vallauris you'll find the National Ceramic Museum, with some pieces by Picasso and many others of interest. Picasso's War and Peace is displayed in the adjacent small building.
