Looking for an all inclusive resort for a family of 14 people

We would like to take our children and grandchildren to Italy in 2014....ages range from 9 to 80......I don't want to cook and we'd like someplace where everyone feels independent yet we're close enough to get together when we want to.......It would be nice if there were different things to do, horseback riding, biking, swimming....not necessarily planned activities. Thanks for your help.

Well, there's a Club Med on Sicily....

I loved Sicily but have never stayed at a Club Med or any other AI.

Good luck. I have looked at a similar thing for my family. An agriturismo might satisfy most of the needs. However, the problem I have encountered is that everyone gets bottled up in one place and unless several people have cars, you are all stuck in one place. I have not yet found an agriturismo that can accommodate that many at one time and has frequent enough public transit to a near by large enough town. Additionally, i have found quite many people from the US (I am not sure where you are coming) are repulsed by the idea of using public transportation anywhere. With that many people, you would probably need at least 4 cars to be able to also carry luggage and be able to manipulate into small towns. Big cars are nightmare to squeeze into narrow streets and to find parking if you are thinking of also visiting towns.

There's a Club Med on Sicily.

Also consider a large villa or compound with a pool, a chef, housekeeping services, etc., and several cars for exploring the area.

Parker Villas has several properties with pools in Tuscany and Umbria. Note: Meals and housekeeping are extra.

There are tour operators who offer holiday village type vacations but are UK based and include flights, not sure you can book the hotel by itself?
http://www.markwarner.co.uk/sun-holidays Italy is not an option but there are other destinations

Do you want to simply hang out at a resort or are you interested in seeing some of Italy? Location is important in the latter case.
