Looking for affordable summer airfare – Icelandair?
 

Today's flight searches showed that we can get the itinerary we want (flying into Amsterdam and home through Paris) for a reasonable rate out of Newark on Iceland air.

Has anyone ever flown on Icelandair? If so what were your experiences?

Any other suggestions for affordable summer airfares, I'm all ears!

Icelandair is well known for reduced rates. Nearly without exception the flights require a stop over in Rejkavik. This however, isn't necessarily a bad thing since Iceland has much to offer visitors.

We flew them long ago and it was a fun trip with the stop. I'd do it again if the price and itinerary is right.

When they were based out of BWI we flew them several times. I don't like the planes they use with the 3X3 seat configuration but if the price is right you only feel like a sardine in a can for a few hours ;;) At least now they have personal TV which they didn't when we flew them. Be sure to check out seatguru before you select your seats.

Iceland is fascinating and worth a stopover if you have the time. Deborah

Our family of 4 is using Icelandair out of Seattle. The price was right (at least better) and we are eager to spend a night in Iceland. Hope it works out for you (and us).

We have flown Icelandair twice from Seattle to Paris; once back from Paris, and once from Amsterdam. We have never stopped in Iceland for the night, but just changed planes. We found the flight wearing.

I agree about the seating; the equipment obviously set up for shorter flights. The lack of padding on the seats is bearable for the few hours involved for trips in Europe, but one becomes acutely "cushion conscious" after eight or ten hours seated on concrete.

It is the cheapest way to get to Paris for us, but be aware it is a cheapo airline, with all that entails, i.e., nothing is free except a bottle of water as you board, and the food is expensive and dreadful. Pick up a sandwich or two in the airport before boarding.

This May we are going to fly Air France (Delta). It will cost more, but it will be nonstop. Hopefully the seats will be kinder to my bony old rump, too.

I actually found Icelandair to be a nice airline.

I was dreading the 3x3 configuration, but since it wasn't a 8.5 hour flight, it didn't seem that bad.

I didn't mind the stopover in Rejkavik on the way home - it broke up the flight. We didnt' spend any time in Iceland since I didn't want to take any days from Europe.

I didn't like flying out Newark. Thankfully we had no problems with parking there - my husband's boss had the gas siphoned out of his car while parked there a few months ago.

The scenery flying over Greenland was amazing!
