looking for affordable accomodations in vienna
hello,
i am looking at staying at the pension wild. has anyone been there before, if so, how was it? can anyone recommend alternative accomadations for a double room in the city centre for about $80-100 a night?

I haven't stayed at the Pension Wild but did stay at the Pension Shermin two years ago. It was very nice and within walking distance of the city centre (located not too far from the Opera), but I think the price was closer to $120 per night. This past May we stayed at the Hotel Austria. It was located in a quiet back street and close to the city centre. The staff were very helpful and the hotel had a lot of charm. I think we paid around $100 - $120 per night. It is within walking distance to the city centre but we took the train from Schwedenplatz one or two stops to Stephansplatz, which was very convenient.

Judy, is the Hotel Austria a hotel chain? Is the Hotel de France part of that chain? I am looking to stay at the hotel de France and I have seen it referred to as the Hotel Austria too.

I stayed at the Pension Nossek a few years ago. It's on the Graben just around the corner from St. Stephens. It was about $100. Rooms and bathrooms were large and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. I plan on staying there again next year. Tel: 01-533-7041-0; Fax: 01-535-3646.
Adrienne
Kathy, I don't know if the hotel Austria is a chain or not, but I suspect it isn't. It is located at Am Fleischmarkt 20, Vienna, email address [email protected]. I've never heard of the Hotel deFrance, so I'm afraid I can't help you with that one.

Have you tried Rick Steve's books? He lists many inexpensive places as well as B&B's. We used his suugested B&B in Vienna and were very pleased with the location, price and value.
