Looking for advice re: going from Italy ending up in Albania

I posted a similar message under the Italy tag, but thought I might attract a different audience using the Albania tag. (I didn't know when I made that posting how to have multiple tags.)

Recently I received an invitation to do a two-week consulting assignment in Albania the beginning of June. My husband and I had been planning to go to southern Italy the second half of May, so now I will go from Italy to Albania. Husband seems interested in doing that too (and then would fly home shortly after I begin my work).

I would appreciate information about the best ways to get across the Adriatic and end up in Albania. We would like to spend some time of the east side of the Adriatic before I begin the work assignment in Albania. I’ve been interested in Croatia and Montenegro, but Croatia may be too far north, given that we’d be coming from southern Italy (though I suppose we could fly into the southern-most part of what we’ll visit in Italy and then work our way north before crossing the Adriatic). Going to Corfu and then north to Albania is another possibility.

I’d also appreciate suggestions of what there is to see and do in Albania, since I’ll be there for almost two weeks – working most of the time, but presumably I’ll have some time for sightseeing during the week and especially during the weekend.

We enjoy history, museums, culture, walking and hiking, easy bike rides (if in safe conditions), flora and fauna, and good (but not expensive) food.

I’m looking forward to receiving some ideas that will help me focus my further research (e.g., of postings on this site). Thanks in advance for your help.

Judilie shalom'

I and my partner spent 18 days in Albania in 2009 and came away as ambassadors for this wonderful people. I out together a list of some 120 clickable links to information and Rachel has used her photos to make a dozen Presentations covering most of the country .
I paste here links for searching for flights and of the ferries. There are as I recall two airlines doing the south Italy - Albania route.
We have helped numerous people during the past year to find their way to Albania.

You don't give any idea of how long you want to spend "on the east side". If you have 8-9 days or better two weeks you could do Saranda to Dubrovnik ( we were there 4-5 years ago and yes there is a Presentation)
If you are interested in the presentations or any other help/advice we can be reached at [email protected]

Judilie hi

One more thought . I found your post because I have a Google alert for Albania. Looking at the Fodors forum for Albania I suggest you look at Trip Advisor forum also. It has a number of non-Albanians living in the country to give even more advice.
