looking for advice
Wife and I are travelling to Italy next year and will be using my airmiles to pay for one ticket however the airmiles accummulated will only let me go during discount flight periods. If you have a choice between going around end of May 2003 or after October 15 what would you do.We want food, wine history, beach and hot weather is not important.

I would prefer May 15-30 if all things were equal (it would not be the case in my situation; May 15-30 might not be so available as it is more of a family time with three kids out of college then). Keep in mind that the daylight hours are MUCH longer in late May than ANYtime after September (in fact, May 30 has longer daylight hours than August 1!)

Preference or no, I would recommend scouring the end of May ASAP as it it will already be a little bit "picked over". And then if you have to fall back to plan B, your choices might be a little bit more readily available.

Best wishes,

Rex
Actually, either time is a good time for Italy. However, Rex does make a good point about the longer days in May. But,again, you can't go wrong either way.

Since you say you're looking for advice, I'll give you some that is friendly. In the future try to indicate at least vaguely what your post is about. Here are a couple of suggestions that might have prompted more answers from those glancing over the topics:

When to go to Italy
Italy -- May or October?
I definitely would go for May. Longer days (we walk the city all day).

We were in Rome and Sorrento this past May (first half). The weather was great and temperature in the upper 70s.

Since the first thing you list as being interested in is food then I would suggest after October 15th. Autumn is so wonderful here. Besides truffles, mushrooms, cardoons there is also the release of the vino novello on Nov. 6th, there is the first release of the new olive oil, etc. etc. It is a food lovers heaven. The days are shorter but heck, if you are sitting inside a restaurant or cafe or wine cellar sampling goodies, what difference does the sun make :-)
