Looking for a tourist guide at Greece
 

Hi, I am looking for a tourist guide at Greece. I will arrive at Athens most probably at the Beginning of May and will stay there for half month vacation.

I am looking for a guide who speaks good English, is familiar with Greece history and will be able to go to some Islands with me.

I will stay at a hotel close to Piraeus port.

Or if anyone happens to know some good guides, please recommend to me. I would be so grateful. I have a lot of work to do before I go for my vocation so I don't have much time searching and preparing.

An actual licensed guide who is legally authorized to enter museums and ancient sites and interpret them to you is someone who has completed years of study of archeology, architecture, art and Greek history and passed rigorous tests. THese people work for sightseeing companies, for companies that run bus tours, or walking tours -- all of which typically involve 20-30 tourists following along. Others work through hotels, which provide private guides for small groups of hotel guests, who each pay a lot more. Typically for such small groups, a licensed guide will charge €200+ for a 3-hour tour of the Acropolis & vicinity.

To hire a licensed guide who'd be with you all day in Athens, and accompany you to islands, would cost you many many thousands. If you are quite wealthy, this will not be a problem. Otherwise, to get what you want, I think you would have to seek out an expert on Greece from a university near you, and pay for their trip in return for informal guiding.

One of my friends once told me that there are many personal tourist guide at Greece and they charge €30 for an hour with a free car. So I thought €300 would be enough for each day.

Go back to your friend and ask her what year she got a guide for that, and did she ask the guide to go to islands with her and spend days.
