Looking for a photo storage site
 

I have been looking for a photo storage/sharing site that when you click on the slideshow feature, it shows the photos at full-screen or at least almost full-screen.

Anyone have any sites to direct me?

It's not free, but it's very reasonable (I believe it's still $23 a year for a huge amount of space) and the way the photos are displayed is much nicer than many of the other sites. I think it's more professional looking. Also very easy to use. You can check out my photos on it at www.pbase.com/annforcier I love using it.

isabel is right. At pbase.com it costs $23 a year for 500mb of storage. I have nearly 1400 photos and am only using 111mb so far. It is a very user friendly site and does have a 'slideshow' feature where you can control the speed. You can see my work at www.pbase.com/trsw

I use www.zenfolio.com. $25 a year for 1GB of storage, $40 for unlimited.

BTW, I store my ~10MP pictures at pretty high JPEG quality. Currently, my 5,225 photos take up 12.7GB of space.

I'm a big fan of Flickr, which has recently improved its slideshow capabilities. Currently, the "slideshow" option takes you to a black background and shows the photos as large as the vertical space will allow. You still have the browser bar at the top, but if you maximize the window it gets you close, at least. Flickr is free for limited storage and $25/year for some crazy large amount I can't recall.

I *love* surfing on Flickr, fantastic creative material out there!

I use a free site called Photobucket. Has a slideshow facility and you can even upload videos. The photos are as large as you want them to be. However the larger, more pixelated(?) photos take longer to upload and view. You can use a program like Adobe to adjust your photos for size, brightness, contrast, image quality etc. All in all time consuming but fun. The finished product is better than a coffee table album - you can browse your online photos when the boss isn't looking :) I'm a hack when it come to technology but I'm happy with the results. My 2 daughters use dotphoto.com are and have been very happy with it. From what I've seen of the site, it offers quite alot for the minimal charge.

Which of these is the easiest for other people to look at your pictures (and not have to register)? Thanks.

I don't use any other sites, so can't really compare, but Flickr is easy for that. As long as your photos are checked "public," anyone can see them.

You can also check them to only be visible to family or friends, and in that case anyone who wants to see them must register, then you have to make them family/friend. It's pretty easy, though, especially if you already have a Yahoo account (Yahoo bought Flickr last year, I think).

I replied at length in moolyn's other thread, which has a lot of responses.

For default loading of the larger size photos, one after another, pbase.com is my favorite for its clean interface and image pages devoted to the photos instead of ads or glitzy features.

We can also add a lot of information on our gallery pages as well, which helps for some travel pages.

If you go there you can download the free member-written magazine which has beautiful articles and tips/techniques, without having to be a member.

Also, if the person whose photographs you're viewing chooses the option, people do not have to be members to comment, under galleries or images. Sometimes non-member comments will await page-owner approval though, but that differs with the page maker.

People might prefer the faster-loading www.pbase.com/andrys/abtravels which uses smaller photos for the slide-show intro.

I really also like myphotoalbum.com for its simplicity and because it's free unless you want bells and whistles - people there can also default to seeing large 800x600 images. One thing that's bothered me about flickr is the inability to see the pictures large, one after the other, but it's a very innovative site. Yahoo owns it, so it definitely opts for registration before participation, as they are ad-heavy. PBase has no advertising but costs $23/year to have 500 megs of photos there.
