Because I travelled alone but at Crillon I went with my husband. He sings with an amatuer chorus and they go to different countries to sing and we don't have finances to do both. So if he is off away from his cigale, she'll be off "singing" alone in Provence.

Thanks for the clarification. I know that Crillon is out the way so I wondered how a person would get around if they didn't have a car but wanted to stay there.

Could Mimi, PB, or someone tell me anything about the Le Roy Soleil in Menerbes and the Villa Borghese in Greoux des Bains.

Ron, we visited Greoux and lunched in town when we visited the Grand canyon of France-The Gorges of Verdon, A beautiful drive. Th villa has a heated swimming pool, sauna and all these things are at hotels in that town famous for its mineral spas. We stayed at a simple place at the end of the canyon. The Villa is listed in the Chateaux and hotels de France. The fax in case you may want to send for their brochure, is o4.92.78.09.55
The Roy Solieil I have never seen but have read good things and have seen pictures. It looks charming, a 17th century building in the village, most rooms with private terrace or garden.
fax 04.90.72.36.55
If you are talking about the one I mentioned staying at, The Bastide DE Moustiers????
It is listed with the Chateaus and Hotels De France. The email is:[email protected]
This is one of the few properties that you cannot drive to for looking around. There is a huge iron gate that has a speaker that you sign in for your reservation.

Mike,
I have been waiting for about a month for my reservation. They advised me that they are not booking for May 2002 yet so I don't know if I have a room or not.

Sorry Mimi I've been out of town. Actually the property we were looking into was La Bastide De Marie which PB and Christina recommended.

My wife would dearly love to stay there and we did hear back but unfortunately they only book rooms that include both breakfast and dinner. We are often not around our "hotel" at dinner time and don't want to plan our day around getting back for dinner so we would not consider this property. If however this is not a problem for someone, take a look at their website because it looks very very nice. Mimi, one thing I would love to know is why you are so in love with Crillon Le Brave. My wife has her favorite resort, which I hear about all the time, so I'd be curious to know if you're raving about the same stuff.

www.labastidedemarie.com

We'r e still looking if anyone has other recommendations. Per Debbie's suggestion we ordered "Hidden Gems of Provence" and we're hoping it arrives soon!

Thanks to these posts and after more research I'm leaning toward Le Moulin de Lourmarin.

mike, the reason Crillon is my favorite is because it looks like I imagined a beautiful place in Provence would look like and serve the food i know that is Provence, where the staff was helpful., the view spectacular, secluded so you really enjoy the property that is on several terraces. The owners are extremely nice, Canadian, one a spectacular painter. AND near to everything. If you look at a map it is not very far to most places for day trips. They also now have a bistro that is less expensive than the main restaurant.

Mike, If you give a real email, some of us will answer personally. Your event is special, we don"t like everyone to go to our prefered hotels

Haven't stayed there but have been by, the Mas d'Artigny in St. Paul de Vence. Many of the rooms, like Las Brisas in Acapulco (our fave place this side of Jupiter) have private pools overlooking the forest or the Med. The chef has won awards apparently. Not cheap but maybe worth a look. http://www.mas-artigny.com/mas-artigny01.htm

Mike, what did you hear back from La Bastide de Marie. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I requested a reservation over a month ago and was told they were not booking May 2002 yet. I haven't heard anything since. Did they offer you a room? Thanks, Kay

Kay, my apologies. Le Bastide de Marie did reply to my inquiry. Twice in fact.
The first response I received (last Thursday I believe) was to offer a room or suite at the same price posted on their website. In their response they noted that the price includes both breakfast and dinner. I replied late Thursday and asked if they offered rates for 1/2 board but unfortunately they only offer a rate that includes both breakfast and dinner.

It looks like a beautiful place but unfortunately it's just not for us. Please post if you stay there.

kay, it is a lovely place and if you are going to several places, this would be the spot to stay and relax to rest up for the few days and than head out again.

Thanks Mike. I plan to stay there if I can get a reservation! As I mentioned, I have been waiting for about a month. I am going to check on that first thing Monday. I will certainly post a report and will look forward to one from you. We are also staying at the Villa Gallici. I hope you and your wife have a wonderful trip!

Mimi, Thanks for your note. I plan to explore the surrounding area, but will take it easy there before heading to Barcelona. I would appreciate advice on places of interest and quaint villages in the area.
