Looking for a luxury hotel on Madeira

Hello,
My husband and I (in our 60's and 70's) are planning to spend 5 days on Madeira at the end of June before joining our family to tour Portugal. We are looking for a luxury hotel on Madeira with a good ocean pool and proximity to a city and restaurants. We would like to avoid all-inclusive hotels, just our preference.
We understand that Madeira is not a beach destination but it's our only time to relax and my hubby loves the ocean/seawater and not a fan of pools. We are also planning to either rent a car and drive around or get a tour or two of the island.

The hotels we are considering are Belmond Reid Palace, The Cliff Bay, Saccharum, Calheta Beach (though its all-inclusive), Albatroz Beach & Yacht Club (Santa Cruz).
Did we overlook any? Appreciate your recommendations and suggestions.

Belmond Reid Palace.

Maribel's suggestion mirrors my own. Reids is a longstanding hotel near Funchal and was and is recognised IMO as the best on the island. It has a long and distinguished history and many well known names including Winston Churchill have stayed there.

Thank you Maribel and Rubicund. Any recommendations on the restaurants?

Opposite the cable car terminal, there is a street packed with restaurants, very popular with both tourists and locals alike. We've eaten in most of them over time and particularly enjoyed the Mozart. There's also the Armazem do Sal in the town, again enjoyed it there..Having said that, part of the fun for us is trying places that look good, from the menu and furnishings, although that's not always reliable. Fun though!
