Looking for a hotel in Copenhagen
 

Can anyone help us with a hotel recommendation in Copenhagen? We are four women who want to to be in a nice neighborhood with restaurants and shopping. Thank you.

Something between 200.00 and 300.00 USD?

We spent 4 nights at the Marriott. It isn't in a "neighborhood" but it is well located for easy walks to all of the best areas to visit.

There is a Radisson Blu that is near the Central Station and close to Tivoli that is popular.

Hotel Copenhagen Island looked nice, we had dinner there. Also, not in a neighborhood, but near a large shopping center further away from things than Marriot.

We stayed at the Admiral Hotel in the Nyhavn area. It has a waterside promenade with views of the Opera across the water and is about a block and a half from the Nyhavn area which is a canal lined on both sides with bars and restaurants. At the end of that canal about another block away is Copenhagen's largest department store and it's not all that far from the main shopping street that goes from Nyhavn to the area by the municipal building and Tivoli gardens. All very walkable. We paid $178 US per night double in 2010. We were very happy there.

Getting 4 people in a $200 room won;t be easy. We have been several times - to pleasant but not ostentatious hotels - and paid around $250/$300 for 2 in a room.

The Admiral hotel is interesting (it's a converted warehouse) but IMHO is too far from the center of the city. I would stay closer to Tivoli and the Town Hall end of the Stroget.

Disagree that the Admiral is not in a good location. It is near Nyhavn and the upmarket end of the Stroget. The Radhuspladsen end is populated with tacky souvenir shops, fast food, and trashy bars. If you want to be near Tivoli, sure, but the dining, shopping and nightlife is categorically better by the Admiral. The very nice F&B outlets at the Nimb hotel are the only saving grace, culinarily, for the Radhuspladsen end.

That being said, if you are talking $200-$300 total, then your options are limited. You could
Look at a family room at the Admiral, but it might come in higher than that.

Not as convenient, but not terrible, would be the Mariott. Try Priceline, and you could probably get 2 rooms at $120 or so for each. Nice hotel. That would be the best value in town, but would entail some walking or cabs.

If you wanted location over all else, The Strand and Hotel Opera might be worth a look.

Sorry to confuse everyone. The $200 to $300.00 price was per night for each room. We would be getting 2 rooms each night.

At that price, I'd look first at the Skt Petri. Great location. Nice, modern hotel. Good in-house bars. The Admiral would also be a good choice. If you got a deal, I'd also consider the Nimb. Even though I'm not a huge fan of the area, the hotel looks great. Haven't stayed in a room, but the public spaces are awesome and the rooms look great in pictures. If hotel service matches that in the F&B venues, then it should be a good experience.

WE stayed at the Copenhaguen Marriott a couple of years ago. Got two rooms via Priceline bidding for about $125 each, a steal!(their website wanted about $350 per room). Its not located in a particulat "neighborhood" , but about 10-15 mins walking to the main shopping streets and even closer to Tivoli Gardens.

Another vote for the Admiral.

It's a quiet location on the waterfront, but only a stone's throw (2min walk) from Nyhavn with quirky, artsy little shops and a line of restaurants along the harbor canal (those look a bit touristy, but since I never ate there, I cannot comment on quality).
And a 10min walk from Kongens Nytorv, the beginning (or end) of the shopping street with the impressive Magasins du Nord department store.
And I have to second travelgourmet's vote and I also liked this "end" of the shopping street better than the one closer to the central station.

Kongens Nytorv is also a stop on the metro line from the airport, so you don't need a taxi unless you shlep lots of luggage or when it's raining.

If you want a room at the Admiral with the visible beams as shown on the website (it's a huge converted warehouse as said before), you should specify so, as not all room feature those.
