Looking for a great city for my husband's birthday trip - please help

great choice!! My sister and I were in Barcelona a couple of years ago and loved it. We had some great meals and found the red wine delicious and inexpensive. Loved all of the Gaudi sites. Took a bus tour to Dali's museum which we also loved.
We'd read about the pickpockets so we did not carry anything of value in any place that could be reached by anyone else. We were on the subway, and it wasn't even crowded, when my sister felt an older (50s, 60s) woman's hand in the outside pocket of her purse. My sister jerked her purse away so the woman moved on. Nothing lost and we laughed about it and had a story to tell. No other problems.
