Looking for a charming place to stay in Cote D'azur

Has anyone stayed in any quaint, budget type accomodation in Cote D'Azur? My husband and I are really just looking for a room with double bed/ensuite, not to far from the train/beach or main part of town, fairly close to (or in) city of Nice?

It is not possible to be close to both the beaches and the train stations in Nice. There are three train stations in Nice but you surely would only be interested in being near the main station which is called Nice Ville. From this station to the beaches is one mile. The cheapest hotels are in the area around the train station. There are two hotels close (within a block) of the station that are cheap yet nice; they are the Ibis which is part of the Accor chain and the Best Western Hotel Riviera. I have been to both and they are ok. You don't say what date you will be in Nice and that of course makes all the differnce in the world when it comes to rates. The cheapest you will get a room on Promenade Anglais (the boulevard along the beach) is about 135 euros in season and maybe 95 euros low season.

You might want to consider staying east or west of Nice as you can get to Nice by train fast and cheap from any town on the coast. Villefranche Sur Mer is nice, as is Beaulieu Sur Mer, Antibes or Menton which puts you very close to Monte Carlo. Have fun whatever you decide the Cote D'Azur is great. Take the train from Nice up into the mountains on the line between Nice and Cuneo, Italy. Great villages to visit are Peillon, Peille, Roya Sur Mer and Tendre.

Well, a couple of years ago I stayed at the Residence Eifel in Beaulieu Sur Mer.

They are apartments on the water but have no beach access. The beach is a short walk away. Beautiful grounds with a lovely pool area.

It is very close to the train station and you can zip easily along the coast.

Cote D'Azur has few budget places if any, that I could find. Good luck and please let us know if you find something.
here's one in Nice near the train station
www.hotel-durante.com
This is from a recent book for places under 80€ but I find whenI google the prices are higher for some.

take a look at villefranche-su-mer; the hotel welcome has been recommended here. you can easily take the train into nice and yet have the advantages of a good beach in villefranche; the beaches in nice are made of hard pebbles.

We drove through Villefranche-sur-mer and Beaulieu on the way from Juans-les-Pins to Nice Airport last summer. Both are lovely little beach towns. I don't have a particular recommendation, but from what we saw, we'd consider staying there on another trip (by the way, we loved Antibes and Juans-les-pins; I'd return there in an instant!)
