Looking for a castle
 

On Sept.29 this year,my fiancee and I are getting married.We want to go to Scotland at least for 1 nite and spend the night in a castle,but are on a real tight budget.Any suggestions?? Thanks...

have you purchased your airline tickets yet? What city or area will you be in? What is your budget? Do you realize what day it is?

You may want to start looking at www.castleshotels.com and aboutscotland.com. I have never booked through these websites, but they will be good starting points. And, as Sandi indicated above, you should get a reservation as soon as possible.

mrspeeps - does it have to be Scotland? Not sure where you jumping off point is. Anyway, this link will give you more choice if scotland is booked! I know a couple of sets of friends who have stayed in Borthwick Castle in Scotland and loved it. One (normally straightforward person) swears that it is haunted.

My family just returned from a UK trip. We were either going to stay at Borthwick (just outside Edinburgh), or Langley Castle. I chose Langley, even though is was more difficult to get to without a car. From my research, it was just a little more high-end than Borthwick, and the outside look of it is unbeatable. But the prcie from celticcastles.com was the same. Our stay was fantastic, from the service to the room to the dinner, and the surrounding countryside. Be forwarned; one night with dinner and drinks will run you around $600 US. What an experience, though. My kids' favorite night of great trip.

Tulloch Castle in Dingwall on Inverness is a good value for a castle stay. They have a web site you can find in google.

From Where???? One night in Scotland doesn't really make much sense unless you are starting out from northern England.

Before anyone can make any sort of useful suggestions we need to know where you are traveling from and where are you going after your night in Scotland. And if a Scottish castle is what you want - why isn't the whole honeymoon (or at least more than one night) in Scotland?

If you'll settle for a huge old stately home that feels like a castle and where Mary Stuart once stayed, check out Traquair House. B&B (huge breakfast!) runs about 150 pounds.

I believe ajs is referring to Langley Castle Hotel in Hexham, England, right by Hadrian's Wall. I second this recommendation. We stayed there about a year ago and it was fantastic.

I'm pretty sure that the Fernie Castle in Fife and Tulloch castle in Dingwall are the two cheapest castle hotels around.

Apart from Traquhair, Stuart Castle outside Inverness does B&amp;B and so do Bracaldine and Minard castles in Argyll.

If you're really skint you could try a hostel- Carbisdale castle owned by the SYHA, and would be very cheap.
