I'm confused.... and sort of new to ThinGorjus threads. But in my mind's eye I pictured someone who looked like Audrey Hepburn gone bad... with a temperament to match -:) But, then... there are all these references to "John". so... I suppose he is thin and gorgeous too??
Anyhow, loved the restaurant reports. We had absolutely one of the WORST meals of our lives in a restauarnat in a cistern somewhere near Hagia Sofia.(Was recommended in all the guide books). Was only salvaged because we shared our table with a mystery writer who had just been to a conference in Sofia... which was still a little exotic at the time.
AND.. I'd love to be like Muffy. Think I know some of her relatives -:) But, alas, we children of later immigrants lack a certain elan =::))

TG- sorry you didn't like the lemon-swordfish kebabs as this dish turned out to be one of my favorites in all of Turkey - second only to Beyti Kebab. Tried it first at a small street side cafe off the Hippodrome. I noticed all the local cats were paying particular attention to a particular diner. As cats know their fish, I asked the waiter to bring me what that particular diner was having. The cats soon joined me. Unfortunately very few morsels were shared with them.

How on earth can one ruin a good fish? Too sad, really. Lemon pledge - hilarious!! :D

"Muffy ended up falling into the Bosphorus, thanks to 10 Sake cocktails. Luckily, she was on the swim team at Choate."

Topping for those travelling to Istanbul.

koreaprincess Feb 15th, 2007 04:19 PM

Dear TG: I am so glad I read your post! I'm going to Istanbul in April with my sister from N.Y. and her hubby, who is from Istanbul originally. I'm grateful for food suggestions. I am "food deprived", as I live in Busan, So.Korea, which is not known for it's food (to say the least).I am originally from N.Y. and L.A., and am a former caterer. I MUST go to OZSUT and try the tiramisu (I am known for my own, albeit I have to hand carry marsala wine back to Korea with me.Oddly, they sell mascarpone cheese here). And yes, I must have a hamburger! The beef here is pretty bad and we absolutely long for a juicy, delicious burger at times! Thanks again and I'll report on my own experiences. I love the people of Turkey, but detest the coffee, which to me tastes like someone dunked a pair of dirty socks in a cup of hot water! TTFN

topping for Richard.

The new Bon Appetit (May issue) has an 8-page spread on Istanbul, with some recipes. And if you check the website for Ibrahim Pasha hotel, there's a list of recommended restaurants for Sultanahmet.

When will you be in IST?
