The line to get into the Statue of Liberty, about seven years ago. Hours of waiting but it was worth it ten times over.
And then there was the line to get onto the ferry to Capri from Sorrento. Not the longest line I've ever seen, but long enough for me to give it a pass! No thank-you to line waiting for me. |
3 hours for returns for The Producers (a fave since the film first came out)in New York in 2001.
Needless to say, we easily got to the front of the queue, as the non-Europeans ahead of us, after waiting two hours, all gave up. |
The Louvre on a Saturday.
Chicago's Shedd Aquarium on Memorial Day. Space Mountain at Disney World, the day after Christmas. |
- Madame Tussaud's in London
- Whichever line I'm in at Customs/Immigration - The lines in the US to get a flu shot. :) |
Again not in Europe ... the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum in Hanoi. Timewise it didn't match some of the foregoing experiences, but in full sun in the middle of the day every hour felt like several.

Tie: Holocaust Museum in Washington, DC. 5 city blocks long at 6 AM.
Uffizi Gallery in Florence. June of 1998. I thought I would get up early, 7 AM, to get a place in line. Unfortunately, 600 others had the same idea. |
Well, I have to admit that both times I tried to see the Eiffel tower on my recent trip, the two lines were blocks long, and didn't seem to be moving. I couldn't justify an entire day waiting to go up the tower. I've been up a couple of times before, so I didn't feel too bad about passing it up.

Four hours at a Honolulu movie theater for tickets for The Empire Strikes Back. And worth every minute :).
|
I waited three hours for my kids to get off the computer so I could post on this thread. That count?
|
Coming home from France through the airport in Philadelphia to catch the continuing flight to Baltimore ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!!! (next time we'll just drive to Philly)
|
4 hours for Gold Class tickets to see Lord of the Rings part 3
|
A few years ago in Amsterdam we stood in a line in moderate rain to see the Anne Frank house. The line went around the block to the horizon.
|
Uhoh -- I think we were on the same flight plan. We missed the plane to Baltimore by minutes. Philly is the pits.
And -- The Uffizi. The wait was 4 hours. We never even considered it. We'll go back someday. ((c)) |
I usually forego long lines, but this year decided a flu shot may be worth it, since I was going to Europe. I hung around in the Publix line in Miami for awhile after getting my number, then did my grocery shopping, drove home to unload, back just in time for my number to be called! Considered it a productive few hours!

I went to the Tower of London one day and saw the line of thousands. I passed. At the top of the Eiffel Tower the line was not so long for descending but the elevator capacity was very limited. It took too long for my patience and I nearly paniced. It is very incomfortable being in a high open place when you want to get down, now. |
I was in London on a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon, shortly after the London Eye opened. Since it was such a nice day, I thought it would be a good time to do the London Eye. Unfortunately, so did every tourist in London, and probably some of the locals. I decided that I would not spend an entire day in the queue, so I left. I came back the next day, which was a gloomy Monday, and there was a very nice, short queue.

Reading this thread, I am really glad that I travel to Europe off season. Walked right into the Tower of London and Madam Tussaud, San Marco Basilica and the Vatican Museums.
The longest line I can remember was at the supermarket when the Patriots were in the superbowl in 1985. The line snaked through the produce section and the manager walked around with trays of fruit and vegetables to munch on. |
although politically incorrect to say this is an attraction, this must be the longest queue ever witnessed (aerial view of vatican queue)

Four hours to get on Splash Mountain when it first opened at Disneyland. Four hours and it broke down when we were next to get on the ride. :((
This is of course, before they introduced the Fast Pass. I didn't realize how much patience I had when I was younger just to get on a ride. Now-I won't wait more than ten mins! |
But i see that as a miracle. imagine if it broke down while you where on the ride?
