Mathieu - sounds as if it was a good party, despite the criminal damage to the tie. I'm sure that they are very good for those of us who feel that we should diet - there can't be many calories in an oyster, or even 36 of them.

Wow, Mathieu-I would have been as shocked as you and your colleague at the damage to the Hermes tie!

To clarify-I really love raw oysters too and have eaten as many as 20 or 25 at a sitting, but these guys ate more than that each and were going strong!! I would have been afraid they would have made me sick!

perhaps we should have a fodors oyster-eating competition!

where would be the best place to have the GTG?

Mathieu Jun 2nd, 2010 02:43 PM

Right here in Toronto would be a good place Ann. We're having our 4th annual GTG in September. Each of the previous ones have been great fun and very successful, and many of us regulars now know each other like we were old friends. Come join us. You too Florida1, and experience some true Canadian hospitality and excellent camaraderie.
The Oyster bar happens to be a short (walking) distance from the dinner location. We could do an oyster lunch for those wanting to before the bigger dinner gathering. No one will likely be celebrating an engagement, and I promise not to wear an Hermes tie. :)

Actually it isn't the calories thats to worry about but - I suspect - the cholesterol. Its supposedly high in most shellfish. That still won't keep me from eating them though.

L’Ilot Vache was my favorite from our last trip to Paris! We are headed to Paris again in a few weeks, and I may have to return. Always torn between going somewhere "new" (to me) and an old favorite!

I've never been to St Chapelle and it is on my list for this time. Wouldn't have thought of St Denis. I will take some of your ideas for my trip...

Wow !! that's a nice trip

Thanks for the invitation, Mathieu! When in September is the GTG? An oyster lunch sounds great!

Have a great trip back to Paris, CarolineM! I will be back there in about 6 or 7 weeks also. We have reservations at a place I read about here called Les Papilles and I think I'm going to make one for L'Ilot Vache as well!

ditto me, Mathieu, if I could, but Toronto is a bit far to come from the UK, even for an all holds barred oyster lunch.

sigh
