Long Weekend in Ireland - Where to go?

Hi all,

I'll be travelling to bonnie Ireland for a business trip. I will finish work in Dublin on a Thursday, then I don't fly to my next destination till Monday, which gives me Friday-Sunday to go somewhere in Ireland (must get back to Dublin by Sunday night, 9AM flight on Monday)

I have already been to Dublin and it's surroundings twice, so would really like to see some other parts of Ireland. I will be travelling on my own.

What is the best destination for a long weekend? Best (least expensive) way to get there? Bed and breakfast or lodge suggestions?

Thanks in advanced!

Donna

If it were me, I would head to either Galway or Killarney, via train:

http://www.irishrail.ie has some Online Only deals as cheap as 10 Euro each way.

LOTS to see and do in BOTH destinations for someone without a car. LOTS of accommodation options 'Close-In' to the train station(s).

It just so happens that the weekend I'll be there - June 17th - 20th, is the Galway sessions music festival. Anyone know about this? Worth seeing? Will it be madness there?

Can't fault Bob's suggestion but I will add Graeystones, seaside village south of Dublin serviced by the train easy in and easy out. Have fun

Definitely recommend Galway or Killarney!

Some very good hotel deals, particularly in Galway at the moment...both accessible by train.

I think I'm set on Galway - any recommendations for places to stay, things to do?

Thanks!

In nearby Moycullen you can shop and tour at Connemara Celtic Crystal and you can shop and get a mini-tour at Connemara Marble Factory. Something a little different.

We enjoyed staying at An Caladh Gearr Thatch Cottage in Spiddal.
