Long weekend in Budapest
Hi folks. We found a decent upgradable fare, got a wild hair, and decided to do a quickie trip to Budapest in about a month or so from now. Ms_go has been there before, but I’ll be a first-timer. Frankly, we’ll have our hands full just covering the highlights in such a short visit... but if there’s one or two off-the-beaten-path things not found in our DK Top Ten book that we shouldn’t miss, please let us know. Bonus points if it’s quirky and photogenic. Note; we’ve already booked an apartment.
Thanks much! |
My favorite lesser-known site turns out to have closed... If you are into Art Nouveau there are a number of good buildings. With only a weekend you are unlikely to run out of the top tier sites, but don't forget there is an Orthodox synagogue as well as the more well known one. I also usually revisit the Museum of Applied Arts. The evening cruise is definitely worthwhile.

The main indoor market and the synagogue were the highlights for us last fall. Apart from that we never warmed up to the place.

This might help. |
No idea why that’s not posting as a link - click on my ID instead for my Budapest TR. it has quirk aplenty

Rather than saying what might be quirky, here are my pictures of Budapest: https://www.flickr.com/photos/mksfca...7670730601912/ Most of them are geotagged so that if you think that an item intrigues you clicking on the location and enlarging it will give you the street name where the item is located.

Many thanks to you all, I will look into all of these suggestions/links/photos. Much obliged!

My favorite is Gödöllő Palace on the outskirts of the city. You can reach it with an enjoyable streetcar ride that goes right to the palace.
